Distinction Dunedin Hotel, hotel in Dunedin

Distinction Dunedin Hotel has been elegantly refurbished to reflect the rich heritage of this 1930’s former post office.

Upgraded to junior suite - very thankful! Big bathroom, narrow but more than adequate living/kitchen/dining room, very large bedroom. Super clean. Large shower which did *not* tend to splash into the rest of the bathroom. Nice large porcelain tiling in bathroom, single sheet of tempered glass for backsplash in kitchen which is great cuz to my mind the less grout the better...nice mini bar and great tea selection. The building being built as post office in ~1937 is built like a concrete tank. Very quiet. Quiet area a quick few blocks from the Octogon and surrounds.

An amazing small city with rich culture and amazing architecture, amazing setting with a port, access to nature, hills, many beaches & bays, public squares and parks, delicious foods and very friendly, genuine people. A great feeling of permeance that is missing from most other NZ cities, I felt like I was in a scottish movie set at times. Will visit again soon! Lots to see and easy to get around.

I just love the Dunedin vibe.

I just love the Dunedin vibe. I was at a conference so didn't get a lot of spare time on this trip. Usually, I do all sorts of things. The museum, the Metro Cinema, an escape room, art gallery, church services, and the beach! Did I mention the great shopping?!

I visited the Farmers Market which was fun.

I visited the Farmers Market which was fun. I also had a takeaway meal of blue cod, oysters and homemade chips from Best Cafe. The meal was amazing. I visited a part of the Botanic gardens which was lovely and watched a women’s rugby game at Opoho, just above the Gardens. We were treated to beautiful weather and a large flocks of wood pigeons!

The hotel is right in Dunedin so we were able to walk to the shopping centre and local tourist sights. The pub downstairs was great. We ate one meal in the dining room and it was fantastic. Our beds were really comfortable and the rooms were warm (we travelled in winter). The bathroom was clean and airy with a big window which opened. This was a neat hotel which I would describe as "art deco" but this could be the wrong description. They also had free parking for hotel guests which was MUCH appreciated!

The Fable chain provides both great service and facilities. Dunedin was the second Fable hotel we have visited and both the facilities and staff communication couldn't be faulted. Knowing we were arriving Christmas Day with limited restaurants open I started communicating early to ensure we were covered for dinner. Both prior to arriving and on the day the staff were great which made our Christmas dinner extremely enjoyable. Thank you
