The Glenorchy wharf is a perfect little spot to enjoy some local beer from the pub that sells takeaway bottles! Absolutely perfect, we loved it. Just relaxed on the wharf and had couple drinks and a walk alongside the lagoon area. Lovely coffee at the local general store! Awesome little local pub and just a beautiful spot to relax for a night if in between places and wanting to chill before the chaotic Queenstown
Glenorchy was a convenient place to start and finish our tramping trips. It is a pleasant town on its own merits, but for this trip it was just an accommodation and meal place to start and finish our recreation in the backcountry
We are glad that we stayed in Glenorchy and not in crowded Queenstown. It was easy to get around and has a great small-town vibe. We hiked the Mt. Judah trail and in peak season, we only saw 3 people and a dog. The view of Lake Wakatipu and Glenorchy was breathtaking. To compare, we hiked Roy’s Peak in Wanaka and saw at least 100 people on the trail, and while we did not go to the very top, I think that Mt. Judah was much prettier and interesting with the old scheelite processing shed and views of a forested river gorge. We also had a chance to see part of the Glenorchy Horse Races which was very festive and entertaining. The Paradise Zipline adventure is just a few minutes from Glenorchy and we agree that it was definitely one not to miss. The guides were safety-oriented, so you are in good hands. We were also treated to a nature talk as we hiked uphill a short distance through a beech-dominated forest. A series of 8 ziplines zigzag across and through a spectacular forested river gorge. Awesome!
We loved our stay and would definitely stay here again. The room was spotless, warm and spacious. The bed was comfortable and we loved the view from our room out over the idyllic countryside and mountains. The breakfast provided in our room was the best! It included a range of breads, croissants, rolls, spreads, pastries, muffins, nuts and dried fruits, cold cuts of meat, cheese and tomatoes, a range of cereals, yoghurt, fruit, milk and juice! Enough for breakfast and a picnic lunch!
The lake and the surroundings are amazing and the route from Queenstown is truly awesome. From here you can easily get to Routeburn tracks, Kinloch and Paradise. The walk through the lagoon is short and interesting, definitely worth doing.
Wonderful place to take wedding photos, beautiful drive to Paradise where there is a horse farm to take the most stunning photos. The lagoon would be a great place to do a walk, unfortunately we were running out of time and didn't do it.
The cabins were spacious and very well appointed. We liked the descriptions of why they chose certain eco-friendly arrangements. The main Lodge was a nice space. Glenorchy is worth the trip. We were really impressed with the retreat facility.
A stunning room with a view of the wonderful Lord of the Rings scenery around Glenorchy. Stylishly decorated with an outdoor spa and attached homey restaurant in a serene location about half an hour from lovely Glenorchy.
Excellent location for our pick ups for our tramps. Short stroll to the General Stores and hotel and main street. Spotlessy clean with internet and cooking facilities. The bed was really comfortable.
Very nice location in Kinloch (at the opposite site from Glenorchy). Perfect starting point for Routeburn tramp and other hikes in the surrounding area. Friendly staff and delicious kitchen.
Location was amazing, staff were friendly/attentive and helpful. Food and wine were excellent. The lodge was pristinely kept, had all the facilities you needed for a wonderful stay
We were doing a photo shoot in Glenorchy and had only booked 1 night but the staff were very accommodating and let us stay on well after our checking out time.
Great location in middle of Glenorchy. Room is near the too main restaurants- recommend the Glenorchy hotel restaurant for good food.
Amazing views, attention to detail, super comfortable and clean, better than most 5 star hotels
