I had two days in Hastings, much of the time being taken up...
I had two days in Hastings, much of the time being taken up with meetings. However, I did have a morning walking around the town centre. This gave me an appreciation of a bit of the Art Deco heritage of the buildings, as well as the observation of new buildings recently finished or under construction. Hastings is built on a flat area, so is easy to walk around. and its central business area is about 6 blocks by 6 blocks, so one can abandon the car somewhere and enjoy a lot on foot. There are plenty of other attractions further out, but my visit did not allow time to explore these. I did do some research in the library, a modern building with good resources and most helpful staff.

Hastings is easy to get around, the streets are in a grid,...
Hastings is easy to get around, the streets are in a grid, marked with north or south or east and west. There were many restaurants and the usual supermarkets. The properties have beautiful gardens. Napier where the airport is located has many amenities also. We enjoyed the mini golf on the waterfront where there are lots of activities for children and a walking path which is used by many. Splash Planet is a place for children to swim. We loved the Sunday market in Hastings with everything local and everything one could wish for. Tastings on each of the goods so taste before you buy. Dogs are welcome and there were many - all well behaved

It's very interesting landscape to explore, very different from other parts of New Zealand. Interesting architecture in Napier, thanks to the 1930 earthquake and fire.
Mister D's never fails to dissappoint. A wonderful restaurant serving top quality cuisine.

Close proximity of both Hastings abd Havelock North makes for a variety of activities and experiences. Plenty if accommadation available in the area. Te Mata Peak a highlight with great hill top views ana a variety of well marked tracks.

The shopping area was convenient.
The shopping area was convenient. I liked how the Warehouse and other shops were close by and a nice cafe/bakery was amongst it.
Found it easy to get from one area to another with our GPS. Trying out Popeyes fast food was a interesting experience. Too spicy but then two of us were old codgers!!

Hastings is part of the Hawkes Bay region.
Hastings is part of the Hawkes Bay region. Napier is a much nicer place. Hastings town was empty with no shops or places to eat at night.
Would stay in Napier & explore everything from there rather than basing your stay in Hastings.
Surrounding areas offered things to do but you need your own transport.
Excellent wineries but again operate during the day.

I recently had to stay in Hastings unexpectedly as a family member was in hospital there. I chose the Elmore for its location - perfect for visiting the hospital, and handy to town. The owners were so welcoming and helpful. The rooms were so clean, and so comfortable; it was such a blessing to have somewhere so lovely to rest and recharge in a challenging time.

We travelled from Auckland to Hastings for Colgate Games (7-14 year olds) accommodation is tight around this time and I thought the price we were charged was extravagant for what we actually got. Of the 3 staff we interacted with only 2 were nice.

I frequently stay here when I work late in Hastings, always the same high level of service, friendliness and cleanliness of rooms. It is also lovely and quiet despite being in central Hastings. Convenient car park also.
