A unique, 'out of the box' experience. The hotel is a living museum, with antique paraphernalia and curios everywhere. The furniture in the rooms is amazing. Feels like you have stepped back in time to the 1800s. Lester and Sam were excellent as hosts. Meals were great quality and value. The bar (available to in-house guests only) offered beer and wine at reasonable prices. There's not too much accommodation in the Otira / Arthur's Pass area with dining and bar facilities, so the Stagecoach Hotel fills a valuable niche.

Lovely host. They understand what the visitors want and organize there property provide maximum comfort and value . They take extra effort to explain visitors about attractions in the local area. I felt like my own family .

The entire hotel and our room were so quaint and cozy. I love the historical feel, and that antique finishes have remained. Little things like the door knobs and windows. There's just so much character. We checked in a little later in the evening, and they made sure we would have enough time to order food from the restaurant before it closed. The food was very good as well.

Short answer: EVERYTHING. Long answer: When we met our host, Taz (sp?), we knew we had landed in the perfect place for our final adventure in NZ. Our room was lovely, sparkling clean and even had a plunge pot for our own morning coffee, along with electric kettle for tea, etc. The shared kitchen and dining room (fully kitted out) offered us the opportunity to share tales and travel ideas with other guests as well as make our own breakfasts and dinners. With a central location directly opposite the general store and close to the track we wanted (Bealey’s Spur) our time spent on travel to/from walks was minimal. And, if you want even more luxury, reserve RM #5, a spacious suite with separate lounging area along with a TV (might want it in case of a rainy forecast and/or more than two people). We feel very fortunate to have been able to stay at this lodge. Definitely a highlight of our 5+ week journey around NZ thanks to the welcoming host’s attention to detail and warmth.
