We went to see the Blue penguins come in after a day at sea.
We went to see the Blue penguins come in after a day at sea. Loved, Loved, Loved the experience of seeing these cute wee penguins up so close.
There were seals close too & we had front row seats to a couple of them having abit of a scuffle.
There was so much to do in Oamaru, we could of stayed longer, as it was we stayed only 2 days.

I had visited Oamaru as a child but the heritage precinct...
I had visited Oamaru as a child but the heritage precinct was not developed the way it is today. This is a fabulous asset to the city as is the harbour - I am definitely coming back for a longer stay!

Easy self walking tour around the old town with plenty of eating out/ shopping options in main street of town as well. Appears to be a safe quiet town in which to wander about day/evening. Friendly staff at Scott’s waterfront brewery offering excellent pizzas and selection of wines/beers.

Our visit was short, but the old downtown area (Whitestone City) was a great place to explore. The nearby park was fun, and the penguins were also nearby. We stopped at several overlooks on our way to Ōamaru from Dunedin (lots of seals/sea lions!), and Elephant Rocks were just 30 minutes away.

Blue Penguins was what we came for and saw.
Blue Penguins was what we came for and saw. Book tickets in advance as it has limited seatings. The event starts at 8pm, lots of tour buses stop there for tourists to witness the penguins come up to shore and to their nesting grounds

Need toi spend couple of days there to maximise.
Need toi spend couple of days there to maximise. A great base to view many attractions this small town has to offer - Victorian Precinct, Little blue penguins, Gardens, Town architecture and go visit the recently renovated 100 year old Hall of Memories at Waitaki Boys High School - arguably the best school hall in NZ and on your way north a MUST - the Riverstone Castle - do the castle tour then eat at their resteraunt AMAZiNG

The hotel lady (so sorry, I can't remember her name) was so lovely, friendly and helpful. She made our experience of Oamaru even better. She was so knowledgeable, and when I mentioned my shoes were wet, she gave me a shoe warmer to dry them out. Definitely went over and above to give us a pleasant stay. Thankyou

The location was fine as we were exploring Oamaru. Being an older motel I was surprised the bed was so comfortable, as I have back issue. It was an exceptionally clean room & had everything we needed.

Fabulous quirky hotel in the centre of Oamaru with friendly helpful staff. The themed rooms were cool and they let you peek in the unoccupied ones. We had the Antarctic room.
