We were very happy with the totally Self-Contained Cottage, and would have liked to stay longer. The owners/Hosts were very friendly and helpful, and also had a very friendly curly black dog. we would love to see them and stay again some time.
We both love Twizel, the people, just generally the whole place. Weather not to good so kerbed what we did, went fishing, weather turned nasty so returned to motel, Twizel has a little bit of everything, love the hardware store, always have a good look in there. The knit/fishing shop also very good and interesting, infact all the shops are really. We had breakfast at the Bakery, good old Kiwi tucka, - plenty of good places to eat. Twizel not far from Tekapo, went there for a day, deserted and very sad to see it so quiet. Good to see older travelers (Kiwis) like us traveling around NZ.
We loved Twizel. There is so much to see and do in the area - great camping spots, lakes, fishing, salmon farm, clay cliffs, Mt Cook, Oamarama and Tekapo hot pools just a short drive away, lots of cafes and restaurants
Beautiful scenery and weather. Relaxed town; pleasant cafes - liked 'Poppies'. We have a jetski - many lakes close by with great facilities. Clay cliffs worth a visit. Lavender farm on road to Mt Cook; and Mt Cook itself. Many walks on well maintained paths. Wonderful information centre.
This is a place if you looking for peace and nature. This place are near to lakes around it! Lake Ruataniwha, Weirepo Arm, Lake Pukaki and also Tekapo. Lake Pukaki is a MUST visit place overlooking the Mount Cook range. Don't forget to visit the High Country Salmon farm, Alpine Lavender Farm too. Near Twizel, there's a place call Clay Cliffs, a natural rock formations about 30km from twizel.
This town is a testament to those people who worked on the Upper Waitaki Power Project which, with it's engineering and beautiful canals is a spectacle in itself. Twizel was destined to disappear when the Power Project finished but the local people fought for its survival and won. We have them to thank for an increasingly growing and interesting town which is a great base from which to explore all that there is to offer in the surrounding countryside. In the town itself I can recommend Poppies Restaurant and the Twizel Book Shop, surely the smallest and greatest little bookshop in NZ. Further out of town are stunning lakes to explore as well as the ever present Aoraki Mt Cook. The Alps to Ocean Cycle Trail is becoming a must do for anyone interested in biking and there are some lovely walking tracks too. A great place for those who want to be active and those who want to just chill out and those who want to do both.
