FAQs about hotels in Muscat

The Middle East’s Best Kept Secret

An enchanting Arabic jewel, Muscat was already an important port in the 1st century. With a strict building code that imposes respect to heights and styles, the city has developed a harmonized and traditional look that makes it irresistible. Don’t miss the traditional Muttrah Souq marketplace, considered one of the best in the region.

The city is actually composed of three towns: Muscat is the walled Old Town where royal palaces are located; Muttrah includes the old and new harbours and the Corniche seafront; and Ruwi is the commercial and diplomatic area. Check out the Muscat hotels map on Booking.com and choose your preferred location!

The city is surrounded by the Western Al Hajar Mountains, and the crystalline waters and sandy beaches of the Arabian Sea. Staying in a Muscat hotel on the beach is a great way to enjoy the beautiful Gulf of Oman views.

The modern and elegant Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is one of the largest in the world. Don’t miss the twin forts of Al Jalali and Al Mirani, and the Qasr Al Alam Royal Palace.

Obviously the weather is a plus at this time of year.

Obviously the weather is a plus at this time of year. Warm, but not too hot. The pole are very nice and very welcoming with a genuine interest in showing off their city and country. There are plenty of sights that are worth a visit, be it the Grand Mosque, the National Museum, the Royal Opera House or the Mutrah Souq. You will either need a car or a taxi to get you around as the city is very spread out. It is modern and clean, but without the high-rise buildings of the UAE and Qatar. It has a lot of charm with lots to explore both in and out of the city. We went to Nizwa for the day which was great as was the Wadi Sham and Bimmah Sinkhole on another day. We spent a week in Muscat and that covered most things to see, though had we been a bit more mobile (my wife has mobility difficulties) we would probably have ventured on more of the physical outings such as snorkelling and diving or hiking.

We stayed 6 nights in Muscat and did day trips up to 300kms (wadi shab). Our kids (2 teenagers + 7 years old) enjoyed trails we did in Mutrah et Sidab. They loved wadi walk. We had a good experience at Sultan Qaboos grand mosque, it's a quite quick visit. Good time at souk Mutrah and a long the corniche, the road is busy but it's ok.

The people of Muscat are very friendly.

The people of Muscat are very friendly. You respect them, and they respect you. Several interesting places and buildings to visit, and they have a very interesting history. It is cheap to use taxi, but my advice is to download the Otaxi app (here you will know the exact price). If you grab a taxi from the street, they start with a much higher price, and you will have to bargain. The beaches are great, and it is OK for women to wear bikini at the beach, but you don`t wear it outside. And you also do your sunbathing a little bit away from local families that are on the beach. You don`t bather them, they don`t bather you.

I do live in Muscat, and I enjoy living in this Country for many years. Of course I recommend to visit Muscat and Oman in general because of its many attractions, the safeness, the cleanness, the culture, the local hospitality. Muscat is the perfect place for family willing for a getaway in the amazing natural attractions.

Like low-key USA... lots of highways, very car centric. Altogether, a very gentle introduction to Arabia, super friendly, great Indian food... and sun in our European winter. I think Muscat lacks from a proper "centre" but I was busy diving for most of the time I spent in Muscat, so I did not do much sightseeing.

Had expected more historical buildings and neighbourhoods...

Had expected more historical buildings and neighbourhoods for such an old city; the city was mainly a multitude of clusters of bland modern buildings connected by a plethora of roads and highways. Even Muttrah (old town) didn't give much of a historic vibe, unfortunately. A very stretched out city with practically no pedestrian walkways; you're obviously expected to drive no matter how short a trip you're embarking on. The best part of our stay was getting OUT of Muscat... The locals a very friendly and helpful.

Al Bustan is an amazing palace-style hotel. The service and staff are impeccable. The grounds are manicured and feature three large pools. There is a large private beach with plenty of parasols and sunbeds. The hotel caters mostly for European guests, but there are also many locals who come to restaurants after sunset to celebrate Ramadan. Non-Muslim guests need to be aware that during Ramadan Omani hotels are not allowed to serve any alcohol in outer spaces. When coming here expect peace and quiet and no partying of any sorts.

Another great stay at Sheraton. This was the third time in 4 years that we travelled to Oman (we are in love with the country) and the Sheraton didn't disappoint. We love the indoor swimming pool and the jacuzzi - unlike many other hotels, the jacuzzi is not within the SPA so it can be enjoyed by everyone. It was nice to enjoy the jacuzzi every evening! The staff was very friendly (nice to see so many familiar faces). The location is great. We like this side of the city (so close to Muttrah).

Easy approach by car, enough parking place always. Nice hotel hall, simply check-in. Our room was at the 3rd floor, it is the best because the pool and the gym. We were very happy with this large and clear pool, sunbeds and beach towels. So it was perfect stay. Room facilities was really good, kettle, fridge, coffee and tea. Kingsize bed was a surprize. Water pression was the best in Oman. Rich buffet breakfast for every type of travellers. Good price for 3 nights.

We absolutely love this hotel, the best we stayed in during our three week holiday in Oman (and we also stayed in 5-star hotels)! The staff is very friendly and professional with a special thanks to Jashim and Bindu for all their great assistance; they made our stay memorable. The rooms are comfortable and the price-value balance is remarkable. We overall really like the vibe/atmosphere and concept of the hotel.

It's conveniently close to the airport - 10 minutes bus ride at the cost of 0.5 riyals, which makes it perfect starting/finishing point of a trip to Oman. The room is spacious, bed comfy, with the best pillows I've seen! Complimentary bottle of water on arrival, hot water and sealing fan (I love those) plus some decent places to eat in the area.
