Although it's considered the oldest inhabited city of the Americas and Peru's historical capital, neither of these truly describes the magic enchantment and colorful people of Cuzco. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, its current shape is the colonial result of building on top of many Incan sites, a good example of which is the Cathedral of Santo Domingo.
Must-see places include the walled complex of Sacsayhuamán and the remains of the main temple of Coricancha, dedicated to the Sun God, Inti. For longer Cuzco stays, hotels nePlaza de Armas central square are ideal to fully enjoy the city. Due to its 11,150-foot altitude, some Cuzco hotels offer oxygen to help their guests.
Moray, supposedly an ancient experimental agricultural station, is 29 miles away, and Lake Titicaca is 240 miles away. The road to Machu Picchu is the famous Inca Trail or "Camino Inca," which encompasses settlements, different Andean environments, and many Incan ruins.
Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport offers services to Lima. Arriving at Wanchaq Train Station or Terminal Terrestre de Cusco bus station are also popular choices. Come to visit the ancient jewel, enjoy Peru and Cuzco with the hotel deals available on Booking.com!

Cusco is a wonderful, historic city, the ancient capital of the Inka Empire. You can find great architecture from the colonial and Inka periods, wonderful museums, shops, tours, and the most delicious food and of course the cutest alpacas and llamas. The Cusco is located at 13,000ft, and we felt very weak for the first 2 days due to the high elevation. We did the 5-day Inka trail from Cusco, and the Rainbow Mountains after, and I am glad we arrived 2 days before the hike. The Inka trail is designed for very fit people, you have to be able to walk for 8-9 hours a day with a backpack to the elevations of 4700-5000ft. It was tough, even for the athletes, but the experience was absolutely magic, the Andean mountains are breathtaking and our guide Edison, was extremely good. We loved the Peruvian people, so kind and caring. Overall awesome experience. We hope to come here again.

To enjoy Cusco takes some planning to maximize your time...
To enjoy Cusco takes some planning to maximize your time there. I didn't enjoy my visit to the city for 3 reasons.
(1) I got Altitude Sickness followed by flu like symptoms which I'm still not completely recovered from (returned home today). Travelers to Cusco need to be prepared for this and have tablets available. It started with headache and nausea, followed by fever, sore throat, loose bowels, shortness of breath etc.
(2) I did not get to visit Machu Picchu which was my main reason for visiting Peru, because the tickets were sold out. My advice is to buy your tickets for this site as far in advance as possible. Do NOT wait until you get to Peru.
(3) The elevation in Cusco is much higher than Lima and it takes a couple days to get acclimated. Unless you are right in the square, you will be walking either downhill or uphill. I didn't consider this an issue since I am relatively fit but the oxygen is thin at that elevation and it doesn't require much activity to leave you winded. Maybe my experience was exacerbated by the altitude sickness but there were times when my heart was racing and I was gasping for air.
There are lots of interesting places to visit in Cusco and I will return at some point but next time I will be prepared so I won't spend most of my trip in bed.

Cusco is a beautiful, old city.
Cusco is a beautiful, old city. Adjusting to the altitude was the most difficult part of the stay. Drink the coca tea daily. It really does help. People are friendly, restaurant options and value were outstanding. Easy to walk most everywhere and never felt threatened but we didn't walk much after dark. Police presence in most areas. Nuna Restaurant was near to our hotel and serves local, farm to table food. They offer gluten free, vegan, vegetarian and meat options. Amazing food, great vibe! We didn't expect this and it was a highlight for us. We went more than once. Street vendors are everywhere so just keep walking. We would definitely go back to Peru.

Er had a lovely stay with our family and our baby. The hotel is really amazing the people who are working there are super helpful and always friendly. Richard Cruz Castro made all our wishes come true. We had some massages helped us with oxygen whenever we needed some. He greeted us everyday at the breakfast personally. Everyone were so friendly and the hotel was exactly what we were looking for. Close to the city Center safe and not far to the train to Go to Machu Picchu. Thank you for making our stay so lovely ! All the best.
We loved our stay! The hotel has amazing views of Cusco and a beautiful garden. We loved our room with the wooden balcony and beautiful views, beds are comfortable, rooms are clean and heating is switched on during the night. The location of the hotel is in San Blas district and only 10 minutes walk to the main square. Breakfast was good and abundant. We needed to print 2 documents and the receptionist was very helpful.
The property is located on the edge of the San Blas neighbourhood. The hotel is great value for money and the breakfast is nice. When we had early tours the reception staff made us breakfast packs to take out with us and helped to arrange a free taxi to the hotel on arrival.
This hotel has beautiful interior and 5-star customer service by everyone on staff. It is clear that care is taken by everybody to pamper each guest. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The quiet location is steps away both from the heart of Cuzco and the San Blas district.
The hotel was at a really nice location in the neighbourhood of San Blas. The personnel was really kind and helpful. We were really happy given the (cheap) price of the hotel.
