Punta Huanchaco Hostel in Huanchaco provides adults-only accommodations with a shared lounge, water sports facilities and a terrace. This place is a home away from home! Gigi and Dario are so welcoming and the minute you get there you feel apart of the family. The hostel is always spotlessly clean by the lovely Lila, with a well equipped kitchen, free coffee and tea all day and communal areas to relax in. Dorms and privates are both spacious with comfy beds. Wifi is great. The hostel is perfectly located in front of the main surf break. The best hot showers! Whenever you need anything Gigi and Dario are full of great information. We have returned to this hostel many times as we have been travelling around Peru for three months now. Can’t recommend this place enough. Miss you guys already!

Gigi and Dario were extraordinary hosts! They welcomed us so warmly and treated us like friends and family. We felt like we were at home right when we stepped in the door. The hostel has an amazing vibe. Everyone is kind and caring and respectful. It is VERY clean, spacious, and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you could need (even an espresso machine!) and the wifi was always full bars! The cats and Pepa, their cute dog, made our stay even more special. Gigi and Dario gave us recommendations for surf lessons, directions to the market, and plenty of great restaurant recommendations. Gigi even set up our transportation when we arrived in Lima. After a few months of travel we were a little burnt out and we were counting down the days until we got back home to Canada. When we got to Punta Huanchaco though we suddenly noticed we stopped counting. We stayed for 7 nights and, needless to say, we did not want to leave! Hands down the best place we have stayed in South America. Highly recommend.
There were lots of restaurants by the ocean, but workers were all around us trying to get us to go in their restaurant. They surrounded us and hounded us.We couldn't even think. There are other restaurants on other Street nearby that are just as good and much cheaper. We ate fish for breakfast at a restaurant on the ocean front and it was expensive and they gave us the tiniest piece if fish and watered down pineapple juice. I recommend looking off the strip.
Huanchaco is appealing to young travelers, especially surfers, and offers good yoga, but is not a very attractive town nor is the beach (trashy). Trujillo’s historic centro I found interesting and enjoyable.
Nice beach town which appeals to surfers and anyone who loves the beach. Lots of restaurants to choose from. The only thing missing is a small grocery store where tourists can buy meat which is refrigerated. Currently the only option is the local Mercado - only for the brave at heart. Trujillo is a short taxi ride away and has a few large super markets.
We heard many backpackers stay here because Huanchaco is part of the so called Gringo Trail. I absolutely don’t understand. Travel a day longer and you are in Mancora where the beaches are amazing. What Huanchaco has to offer is not clear to me. Dirty and small beaches. Nothing special.
History of surf in Huancho and the proud and nice locals made it, along with the fresh cerviche. Caught a solid SW swell and surfed every day. Street BBQ was excellent - look for the 13 yr old girl for the best lol.
