Set in Amares, 19 mi from Geres, Casa d'Amares offers an outdoor swimming pool and free WiFi. The farm stay offers a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom with a hairdryer, free toiletries and shower.... It was the most pleasant stay I had in my 3 weeks of travel through Portugal. I'll most certainly be back. Fernanda and Fernando are heartwarming hosts, that really take care of their guests. The breakfast is amazing, fresh every morning, flexible to ones own timing. They provided tips for local sights, such as Bom Jesus, for bars in Braga and local restaurants. It's a calm place thats close enough to explore the national park (Tahiti waterfall, Blue lagoon). Can also recommend checking out Oporto Adventure Tours for a day trip of canoe and hiking in the national park.
Located in between the river valleys of Homem and Cávado, Quinta Vale Do Homem offers 2 pools, including an indoor heated pool, and romantic picnic areas in a charming garden setting. I liked everything! It is in a really quiet place good for resting but near the river. I always felt safe. Breakfast was really good and acomodations were great and always clean.

Located on Cávado River banks, the restored Casa da Ponte do Porto offers rural-style architecture combined with a modern feel and an outdoor pool. It sits 6.2 mi from Braga city. The best hotel during our 10-day journey around Portugal. Authentic accommodation, clean rooms, nice owners, delicious breakfast, private parking. Owners advised us a good local restaurant. Everything was perfect!
Termas de Caldelas - Treasure to Heal and Rejuvenate. Even these days many Portuguese SPA use healing properties of mineral waters discovered by Romans. These days of course, in addition to gifts from the nature, patients benefit from modern medical knowledge. The beginning of October is a good time to visit Portugal. The days are still long and the weather is comfortably warm. One of such glorious days I set on a large porch of Grande Hotel de Bela Vista. The sun was going down behind the hill that majestically holds the hotel with a lower base terrace. The sun light plaid with colorful vegetation of the valley spread down beneath. Beautiful! Breath clear clean air. Drink healing mineral waters. Rejuvenate!
The Quinta was an excellent base for visiting Braga, Porto, the wine Lodges and the Dourro valley. The local town of Amares had shops for your needs and several restaurants/cafes. We were first time travellers to northern Portugal and soon acclimatised to the roads and getting around. We found eating out very reasonable and portions very large. We wanted to visit Porto but heard about the difficulties of driving in the city centre as well as parking there. So we organised a tour of a wine lodge in Gaia, left the car there and walked down into the town. We caught a bus over the bridge into Porto which took us up to the cathedral. From there we walked backed through Porto towards the bridge. By this time the sun had come out and, once we had seen everything in Porto, we walked back over the bridge and to the car.
