A great city to use as a base to visit nearby mountains and go hiking. Also, if it's the right season for cherries, head to the market and get some. This area is home to the famous Cerejas da Gardunha you see in every supermarket in Portugal :)
O’Serrano de Repleto de Magia was fantastic for dinner!!! Covilha otherwise is a lovely, slightly sleep city in the off season filled with very friendly talkative locals. Free parking at the city square until December 2020 so that was great!
Very friendly people. Usually we used to eat at the mall, but since it was locked down (it reopened monday the 1st June) this time we tried the pizzeria just in front of the mall and it had nice pasta and pizza. We had lunch too at Manteigas, and it was great. Yes, it is easy to get around Covilhã.
The city itself is small but has a nice vibe and some good variations of food, people main destination while staying in Covilha is to go up the Serra Da Estrela which is magical experience either there was snow or not on the top of the mountain.
Covilhã is a young and vibrant city full of students and some activity in the textile area. Very close to the highest mountain in Portugal, Serra da Estrela, the views are amazing and the food is the best you could ever had.
Covilhã is plenty of very good hotels (****). For me the best four are: - Hotel Serra da Estrela (1600m altitude) - Hotel dos Carqueijais (1400m altitude, with a great swimming pool over the valey) - Hotel Pousada da Covilhã (1200m altitude, also including a swimming pool) - Hotel Alambique (located in Fundão) In the winter, we can practice skying in Torre (2000m altitude), only for learning because there is not much snow usually.
I think it needs to be updated specially regarding the bathrooms and sound proof situation. We stayed in a room in the same floor of breakfast room and from 7.30am we could not get any sleep. It does not make sense a 4 star hotel to have noise when people go there to have some rest. Also the restaurant food is not that big of a deal.
Excellent boutique hotel with a keen eye on design & facilities. Staff are excellent in these difficult times, especially Katerina on reception who cannot do enough for you. Ricardo in the bistro also extremely helpful & knowledgeable in his field. Will definitely return...
The hotel owner is so lovely and sympathetic. Our view from the room was so nice! It’s clean and comfortable. Don’t have park, just public park in front of the hotel, but always had a space available. Near the mean city tourist places. Simple, delicious and enough breakfast.
