The hotel is conveniently located and within walking distance of downtown Funchal. The staff are very friendly and the hotel is clean. There are several pools located on the facility, including a rooftop pool which has gorgeous views. The breakfast was amazing! There was a large buffet with Portuguese and English-style breakfast options, including an egg station to order your own style of eggs, and lots of yogurt, cheese, oatmeal, fruits, etc. There were probably close to 10 different Portuguese pastry options. The breakfast hall is large and airy with wall to wall windows overlooking the ocean. There were several coffee machines in the breakfast area and a range of teas, juices, and sparkling wine.

Considered one of the most beautiful cities in Portugal, charming Funchal is the capital of Madeira Island. It's an important base for tourists from all over the world that come to the Madeira hotels, B&B’s and resorts to enjoy their cliffs and beaches, as well as the island's slopes and colorful towns.
Founded in 1424, its location allowed it to quickly become an important trading harbor, attracting many prominent families. Its mild weather was the beginning of its touristic development in the 18th century, with a therapeutic and health profile.
With the establishment of the port first, and Madeira International/Funchal Airport later, the city grew to become a major destination. Nowadays, the city concentrates most of the hotels, luxury resorts and casinos on Madeira. Accommodations located in Santa Cruz, near Funchal Airport, are also available for those trying to avoid the rush.
Don’t miss a long walk around Sé historical district, and enjoy the Santa Clara Convent and the Sé Cathedral. The Quinta do Palheiro Ferreiro Park and the Mercado dos Lavradores are also a must.
Whether you need an ocean-view villa or a small guesthouse, Booking.com has a wide range of Funchal accommodations.
Beautiful island and kind and welcoming locals. The natural beauty is breathtaking. Our taxi driver described it best - it is a modern village. Civic infrastructure is very good. Abundant local produce means all meals were delicious and not very expensive. Loved the local favourite fish black scabardfish.

Lovely marina, old Fort by the old town with painted doors.
Lovely marina, old Fort by the old town with painted doors. Excellent gardens to visit either by cable car or bus. Trips available to see dolphins and whales. Lovely promenade. Lots of good cafes and restaurants but do your research as a few poor ones too.

An incredible, welcoming city.
An incredible, welcoming city. Inexpensive as far as tourist destinations go. Plenty of museums, activities and food to try. Very walkable if you don't mind the inclines, and good and cheap bus connections in and out of the city. Would certainly recommend the dolphine/whale watching tours and to try the traditional meat options. The village of Santana and the Palace Gardens make for great half-day trips, and if you enjoy hiking, I certainly recommend the views of Ponta de São Lourenço.

Madeira is beautiful, I stayed for 8 nights.
Madeira is beautiful, I stayed for 8 nights. I loved the east tour that Lido tours provided, disliked the west tour as it's very touristy. Ponto Moniz is very touristy too. Loved Rabbacal 25 Fontes, provided by Nature Meetings, the mountain guide was wonderful. Did Canyoning beginner level 1, was incredible. Will be going back to hike Sao do Lourenco, as I didn't have the courage to complete the hike. They had a Jazz festival at Jardim Municipal which was incredible (free entry). The orchestra playing at one of their main parks was great too. Loved the views at Curral des Freiras. Farmer's market is a bit of a tourist trap, so I'd suggest to avoid. They have a huge supermarket in centre of Funchal which is great, highly recommend that for fruit / vegetables.

Funchal has so many opportunities to do outdoor activities.
Funchal has so many opportunities to do outdoor activities. We booked most of our activities through Viator and loved everything we did which included hiking, taking a surfing lesson, going whale watching, and a 4X4 excursion around the east side of the island. We also loved taking the cable car up to monte and riding down the hill in the traditional wicker basket!! We would of loved adding another 3 days to our already packed 4 day trip there. So much to do! And I haven’t even mentioned all the fantastic seafood!

The old town is very touristy - we ate there one night, but there are lots of great places to eat, some with fabulous views, in other parts of Funchal that aren't as crowded (special mention to Avista and il Vivaldi). We spent most of our time visiting different parts of the island and doing some of the levada walks, which were wonderful. We went in March, and whilst reasonably warm, there was occasional heavy rain - be prepared.
Our stay exceed our expectations. We were welcomed by Sidonio and supported through the entire stay by the whole team, from advice on the best trails to where to get the bus. The rooftop bar is amazing and offers every comfort - it is more expensive than the average in Funchal and Madeira, but worth it. The apartment was furnished to the highest standard and everything is curated to be also aesthetically pleasing. The location is central and the hotel has a number of parking spots reserved for the guests, which is a great benefit.
A family owned hotel apartment, the owner is a sweet man that takes care of you from the moment you arrive, till the last moment you leave the property. They bring fresh bread to your door every morning, they recommend you the best local restaurants. My tip: let the owner tell you where to go and where to eat, then you will enjoy Madeira from the local point of view and not instagram and bloggers!
P.s: the sea view balcony is a blessing and although you are in Funchal , you’re still away from punks and drunk tourists!
Since I've been going for about 16 years, that tells you mainly what you need to know. It's situated right next to the Atlantic. There can't be a hotel that gets you closer both for rooms and the pool. Breakfast or lunch right on the terrace next to the Atlantic, again unbeatable. Literally minutes walk from the centre of Funchal unlike many other hotels which claim they are but are nothing of the sort. Lovely staff over all the years. Why on earth would you go elsewhere for your slice of Madeiran heaven.
Property is very well located near the centre of Funchal, much nearer than most of the other 4/5 star hotels in the hotel zone which are both further away and typical up a few steep hills. It had excellent amenities such as great restaurant, pool, spa treatments and attentive staff. Breakfast buffet was top notch. We were also upgraded to a Junior Suite.
The hotel itself backs onto a shopping centre, which proved extremely useful for picking up last minute holiday bits (sun cream, socks, pharmacy etc)
Turim has incredibly comfortable rooms, nice beds, nice balconies, a wonderful pool and rooftop bay (Marco is the best!) and a huge and delicious breakfast. We loved Funchal and this hotel was a perfect home base for Madeira.
