With a long and rich history, Lagos is nowadays a famous beach resort of the sunny Portuguese region of Algarve. Including wide sandy beaches and quiet coves enclosed by ochre cliffs, it also offers a lively city centre with one of the best mixes between history and modernity in the region.
King Henry the Navigator chose it as a base for his trips of discovery during the 15th century, and later on, it became the residence of the Algarve governors. The Old Town is circled by medieval walls, typical narrow streets, historic buildings and charming squares. B&B’s and hotels in Lagos’s historic centre allow you to enjoy these picturesque surroundings.
Apart from being an important centre for sailing, the city has amazing beaches, like Meia Praia or Praia da Dona Ana. Resorts and hotels on Lagos’ beaches are the perfect choice for sun lovers, while the hotels near the modern Lagos Marina are popular, as they are both close to the centre and the railway station.
The city is 90 km from Faro Airport, and 24 km from Portimão. Check out the Lagos hotels deals on Booking.com before travelling!

Lagos is a small town with a lovely marina and beautiful beaches. I recommend it for a short 2 to 4-day stay. It is very close to other beautiful towns such as Alvor and Carvoeiro, which are worth the visit if you have a car during your stay.
Although the restaurants and shops are mainly catering to tourists, you can still find some traditional local restaurants and shops, which is nice.

We traveled to Lagos from Spain and wanted a relaxing beach day before heading to Lisbon. For that purpose, it was wonderful. We did some shopping, ate at some wonderful restaurants and enjoyed a day at the beach. The sky was so blue and the water was inviting - it was a perfect stopover during our trip. I would like to return and spend a bit more time in Lagos and the Algarve some day.

WE loved the ease of all the locations and sights within walking distance. The shops, restaurants, spar supermarket, beaches, Marina and board walks all so close. We loved the area the peace and stillness it afforded and of course the sunny weather and very friendly people.

We really liked Lagos.
We really liked Lagos. We flew into Faro, hired a car and drove about 50 minutes to our villa in Rue de Baden Powell. Most nights we would get a 5 min Uber (about 6 euros) into Lagos main area. It had plenty of restaurants, shops and bars. Quite a busy area but not overly busy. We always managed to get a table in the restaurants although sometimes a 5-20 minute wait. All the restaurants we visited were great - lovely food and great service. We visited a bar called Forbidden Door. If you like cocktails this is THE place to go. Our guy from Villa Keys that showed us around the villa told us to go. We were having a chat about which bars to go to and he recommended it. You have to knock on a door and then they will let you in. The bar, owners, staff and cocktails are off the scale amazing. I have nothing to do with them but thought I'd mention it because it was so good. There are many different beaches around and we actually didn't have a favourite because they are so different. We drove to the West Coast beaches also and they were really cool - not really many amenties on some but they were empty, clean and SO wavy. There are many supermarkets that we visited and all ok. We hired a car and traffic and driving around was fine and easy. Weather was around 34 degrees with a breeze. I want to go back!

For families and older travelers, Lagos is much nicer than Albufeira, which is full of kids in their early twenties. The beaches are the main draw, and the Old Town, although not particularly picturesque, has lots of restaurants and nightlife.

We had never been to Portugal so were not sure what to expect. We left loving Portugal and planning to go back again next year. Lagos is a beautiful town - bustling with plenty of restaurants/cafes but has a sense of ease and relaxation. The most beautiful beaches are within walking distance. The weather was perfect, hot but with an Atlantic breeze so the heat is never overpowering. The people of Lagos are so friendly and welcoming.
This was the best BnB I have ever stayed in. The host went above and beyond to make her guests comfortable and provided information of Lagos and the surrounding area that was personalized to each guests interests. The breakfast each morning was amazing, healthy and better quality than you would find in any hotel. Location is very close to the downtown city. Garden and pool area is perfect for lounging. We couldn't have chose a better place for vacation, I only wish it was longer!
Location, location, location with a view! And what a view! We could not have chosen a better hotel in Lagos. We stayed in a room on the 3rd floor with a view of the Marina de Lagos, and it was breathtaking! We were right in front of the bridge that leads to the Marina and a short walk from the historic center of Lagos with its many restaurants and stores. The room was extremely comfortable, clean, and spacious. The breakfast was excellent!
The staff were very helpful, pleasant and accommodating.
Lovely spacious areas both in the room and public areas.
Pool was clean and large.
Plenty of sun beds.
Prices for drinks and snacks in the hotel were extremely good.
Access to the centre of Lagos and Marina was easy.
Very picturesque.
Quiet at night (good thing)
Lovely quiet location on the edge of Lagos, with a short cheap taxi ride in. Beautiful hotel with lovely rooms, pools and restaurant and brilliantly helpful and attentive staff. Will definitely be returning again next year!
Restaurant was amazing, 5 stars absolutely! Hotel staff also. Bed really comfortable. Nice free parking, available only in the morning or after 7pm. Highly recomend rooftop restaurant cocktails!!!
