With a long and rich history, Lagos is nowadays a famous beach resort of the sunny Portuguese region of Algarve. Including wide sandy beaches and quiet coves enclosed by ochre cliffs, it also offers a lively city centre with one of the best mixes between history and modernity in the region.
King Henry the Navigator chose it as a base for his trips of discovery during the 15th century, and later on, it became the residence of the Algarve governors. The Old Town is circled by medieval walls, typical narrow streets, historic buildings and charming squares. B&B’s and hotels in Lagos’s historic centre allow you to enjoy these picturesque surroundings.
Apart from being an important centre for sailing, the city has amazing beaches, like Meia Praia or Praia da Dona Ana. Resorts and hotels on Lagos’ beaches are the perfect choice for sun lovers, while the hotels near the modern Lagos Marina are popular, as they are both close to the centre and the railway station.
The city is 90 km from Faro Airport, and 24 km from Portimão. Check out the Lagos hotels deals on Booking.com before travelling!
The old town was fascinating. Walk everywhere and get lost!
The old town was fascinating. Walk everywhere and get lost! The museum is well worth a visit as is the fort. Take a boat trip to the grottos and also walk along the boardwalks out to the lighthouse to Ponta da Piedade. walk through the marina and along the boardwalks over the dunes of Meia Praia. So many excellent restaurants difficult to choose a favorite.

Initially we had a bad experience with another accommodation up the hill but once we moved to Casa Augusta right in the heart of old town everything improved. It’s a busy crowded tourist town but charming all the same. Lots to do culturally, many restaurants and shops to choose from in old town all within walking distance.
The cliff top walk out to the lighthouse along 7-8 beaches is also great exercise and very scenic. It takes about 1 hr if you go up and down stairs to visit a couple of beaches or less if you just walk across the top. Return more quickly via the main road for a different suburban outlook. Definitely stay in old town and avoid other areas as they are up big long hills and then you constantly have to walk up and down hills for restaurants shopping sightseeing etc.

Definitely stay down near the old town where the restaurants shopping and cultural activities are.
It’s very hilly outside of old town. There is a great 1 hr walk along the cliff tops of the various beaches. Being the Atlantic the water is very cold 18 degrees.
It’s a touristy town with loads of visitors even in October.

Lagos is nice place with lots of bars, restaurants and shops...
Lagos is nice place with lots of bars, restaurants and shops. Our visit was in late Sept so definitely not peak season but still it was busy enough with needing reservations for any good restaurants. The beaches are really the main draw here as they are very beautiful. We pretty much stayed at our hotel and the close beach and would go into the town at night for drinks, dinner and people watching. Lots of people from all over so makes it interesting. We did a boat tour to the Bengil Caves and coastline and while we did not see any dolphins the coastline was gorgeous. It is close drive to visit Sagres and Cabo Vicente which I would recommend.

The property has an amazing location. Walkable distance to all the famous beaches such asa Dona Ana or Do Camilo. Close to the city center and like 20 mins walk to the Lagos Marina where u can rent different boat trips from. 20 mins walk to the main bus station as well.
The room was very clean and nice with a generous balcony.
All the stuff members were extremely nice and polite, always receiving us with a smile and helping us with all the requests.
Therefore, I would totally recommend the hotel since the value for money was again very good.
From the moment we arrived we were wowed with this hotel. The welcome was generous and warm, the staff were attentive and the surroundings were everything you'd expect from a boutique hotel.
The food was wonderful, and the Monkey Bar had a wide selection of drinks. I also enjoyed a few spa treatments which were carried out in a wonderfully relaxing space by excellent therapists - amongst the best massages I've ever had!
Lovely quiet location on the edge of Lagos, with a short cheap taxi ride in. Beautiful hotel with lovely rooms, pools and restaurant and brilliantly helpful and attentive staff. Will definitely be returning again next year!
