Nice overnight stay. Staff welcoming & helpful Hotel is exceptionally clean. Breakfast basic but adequate. Added bonus of Tesla charger Restaurant was closed as it was Sunday but we ate nearby.
A small town in the mountains. When visiting some places nearby one needs to be cautious about the roads as many mountain roads are pretty narrow even for small cars and one may need to reverse in case of traffic coming from in front. During off-season periods many Restaurants are closed.
If you love long hikings, walks, the mountains you are in the right place. There you can really have great hiking sessions and walks. For the real deal you will need a guide and I highly recommend that you make a whole day Jeep Tour with lunch. This kind of programm is something that you don't want to miss in this area of Serra da Estrela. This is a place that you need to take the correct equipment for walking and hiking, the right shoes etc. It can rain a lot so you need proper waterproof clothing. It can get really cold there, so under waterproof clothing you need functional skin breathing active clothing. For the walks and hikings I do not recommend any clothing around cotton or woole. This location is great for active people and active families who love the nature and the amazing views that you can get there. They have there in Manteigas few restaurants, but keep in mind that it is a small village, so I would not recommend a stay larger than 1 week.
Manteigas is a not a place most tourists seem to hear about and, surprisingly, not a place which many Portuguese from the South of Portugal seem to visit. The variety of things to do in the area are wonderful. Whether you like winter sports of skiing and snow-shoeing to bicycling, fishing, camping, hiking in the Spring, Summer or Fall there are any number of activities year-round.
This place was such a pleasant surprise, despite a couple of white knuckle moments navigating the rather narrow and winding road leading down to the town from the main mountain road. The roads in Manteigas are much narrower than what we’re used to, but it’s relatively easy to get around if you take it slow. Enjoyed some excellent local cheese, charcuterie and wine at Queijaria Manteigas. Don’t miss the tour of the Burel Woolen factory, which is very interesting. Their gift shop has something for everyone.
Fantastic location surrounded by the mountains of the Serra da Estrela, with amazing views along the glacier valley of the Zezere river. Lots of well marked walking trails available, anyone interested in mountain walks should visit the information pavillion by the main roundabout. Eating out options can be a bit limited, especially for vegans and vegetarians.
Manteigas
Elsa, the owner, was my guardian angel: She planned a wonderful day trip for me, she reserved places in good restaurants for me, she even made me a packed breakfast when I was leaving early in the morning. she is so friendly and caring. was worth to come to manteigas just for her. above that, the room was excellent: spacious with a comfortable bed and nice shower. the small town is great for exploring the Sera da Estrela. there’s a gods restaurant right next door
Manteigas
Welcoming staff. We were given local cookies and cherries in our room. Huge bathroom. Comfortable beds. Centrally located. The Casa is an old hotel with lovely old details (deco furniture, 70s wall paper) - maybe not for everyone, but we loved it. We got up early for a hike so couldn't make breakfast, but they let us make coffee, tea, and oatmeal in their dining room.
This hotel is the perfect base for three days of walking in the surrounding hills. The view from the room puts you in the right frame of mind then the hearty breakfast sets you up for an active day. Everything was calean and tidy. The tourist information office next to the hotel have a complete catalogue of well illustrated local walks.
Manteigas
Rustic and quiet, with outdoor gardens and an outdoor patio for eating meals. No Wi-Fi, but I enjoyed the retreat. The host left a key for us and it was easy to get in. It is quite a steep walk down into Manteigas, but we were there to walk and hike and it was perfectly located for that!
Manteigas
The pool and garden area is very relaxing, and perfect to cool down on a warm day. The hostess is very service minded. It's only a short walk to all restaurants etc. in the town. The breakfast was generous, with lots of home baked food. The hotel was clean.
Manteigas
The place was very clean and cosy. The staff was really friendly and made us feel at home. We really enjoyed the breakfast as well, it had lots of variety and regional products. The location is right at the center of Manteigas.

Manteigas
This place was great, the owners were very kind and the location was amazing. We did only stay for one night which was a shame because this hotel is also a very nice place to stay for a longer period of time.
A charming hotel inside and out. Rooms with a large window overlooking the view. Cool design, good breakfast, kind and pleasant staff. Great location.
Comfortable hotel with friendly and helpful staff, swimming pool well above what one would expect from a 3-star hotel. Good breakfast.
Great hotel, more like 3 star than 2. Lovely staff, good local breakfast, quiet area.
just beautiful design! but also very comfortable and delicious food
Great hotel with restaurant and other great facilities.
Design and amazing breakfast
