Beautiful, old world hotel! Warm and friendly staff and hotel! Right in the middle of the city and great access! Easy simple parking on the street, just remember to buy a parking pass at the machine on the street. Perfect, quiet hotel! Amazing bar FYI

When booking a trip to Duoro valley, my parents and I were told Six Senses was a must, but upon doing a little research, I came across the newly opened Torel Quinta da Vacaria. With only 2 reviews at that time (be it they were both 10/10 recommend) I was a little apprehensive to take the risk, but got the feeling it would be more cosy and authentic to the region. So we booked the newly opened Torel Quinta da Vacaria and it was the BEST DECISION EVER! Words cant describe how incredible this hotel is!! From the staff, the facilities, the views, the grounds, the rooms, the decor, the pool, the spa, everything was exceptional- all you can expect from a 5 star hotel and then some! The hallways smell incredible! The beds were very comfortable. The mini bar, coffee, tea, water was plentiful. But What stood out was the staff. They are so incredibly kind and attentive. In addition to the somewhat expected courtesies of a 5 star Hotel (i.e. helping with bags, valeting the car, activity and restaurant advice) they truly went above and beyond- making arrangements with service providers outside of the hotel, leaving water bottles in our car for when we picked it up, being extremely patient with our constantly changing plans and our somewhat chaotic group, they were always happy to help with a smile. Last and most touching, i fell ill on our last day- they offered to allow me to stay as long as I needed to rest, (i slept until 3pm!) and even offered to call a doctor to come to the hotel. We enjoyed the restaurant, the wines, the pool, the spa and more. Everything was perfect!

The magnificent view! The sunrise over the Douro Valley! Peaceful! It’s one of the most beautiful places that we stayed in Portugal. Salete was lovely and speaks French, Portuguese and a good amount of English. She made us a fantastic breakfast with homemade jams and cakes. The quinta is architecturally stunning - modern lines but it blends beautifully with the landscape. Vineyards, olive and persimmon trees, flowering vines over arbours, gorgeous pool!! No need for a tv in your room - look outside! This is incredibly beautiful!

the breakfast was exceptional. we appreciated all of the healthy and delicious options. the rooms and common spaces were lovely. property grounds exquisite. staff were extremely attentive and helpful. As a US couple traveling by car through Portugal, we loved having the opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine and the olives we purchased along the way on our private balcony facing the laundry mat as we did our laundry. We purchased a delicious roasted chicken at the super mercado about 2 mimures away and ate dinner on our balcony. We appreciated the down time we had as the next morning we had scheduled a drive along the Douro river with a boat ride and wine tour to follow only 20 minutes away! Rooms were very clean as other travelers had reviewed. Recommended restaurants were a 10 minute walk but we were feeling lazy so are onsite. We parked in a public parking lot directly across from our room and our car was visible from our balcony.
