Location perfect, the host Estrela delightful. We stayed 14 nights in Portugal in very different environments and this was by far my favorite. The space was chic and characterful with all possible amenities. Walking distance to good places to eat and parking!

SUN SET HOUSE, hotel in Monsanto

Located in Monsanto, within 656 feet of Monsanto Castle, SUN SET HOUSE offers accommodations with free WiFi, air conditioning and a terrace. The property features city and mountain views.

How cool is it to have a big boulder in your bedroom? This is probably the most authentic Monsanto rental home in the village. But it's still very clean. The owner gave me good advices and helped me to take my luggage from parking lot to this place in a cute little EV and back. She lives next door and brought breakfast on a tray in the morning. This place is located in a nice quiet corner of the village facing west. So you won't see lot of tourist passing by. What you will see is a nice sunset from your patio. Only mistake I made is that I only stayed for one night.

Casa da Ti Maria Pereira, hotel in Monsanto

Casa da Ti Maria Pereira offers accommodations in Monsanto, a 7-minute walk from Monsanto Castle. Featuring quiet street views, this vacation home also comes with free Wifi.

The instructions for handling pick-up from the town's edge parking lot were perfect (can't drive in due to small roadways). The cute home is exactly how it appeared in pictures. There was good Wifi, heating, and hot water for the shower. All necessary toiletries, coffee, tea, and breakfast were provided. In addition, when the host tried to help us make dinner reservations and learned all the restaurants were closed for a party, she made us a wonderful dinner at her place instead. She also provided a labeled map that in conjunction with our prior research, helped us make sure we didn't miss anything interesting while we were in town.

Beautiful setting at the foot of the mountain of Monsanto. Peaceful and safe. Loved the fresh oranges and lemons picked from the trees of the Quinta! Loved sitting outside to eat our take away dinner and wonder breakfast served in the morning. The hosts were very accommodating!!

Beautiful spot to stay while exploring Monsanto, and the sunset from the porch cannot be missed! Eloisa is an amazing host. She speaks little English, and I speak little Portuguese, but I enjoyed her company and our conversations nonetheless. She has many suggestions for sightseeing in the area, and made our visit truly memorable!

The apartment is clean and has all you need. There are two bathrooms, one is upstairs next to the bedrooms and the second is downstairs in the living room. It is located in the outskirts of Relva and Monsanto village can be reached even by foot if the weather conditions allow so. There is short road 1.7 km long starts directly from the house and leads to the backyard of Monsanto. There is wonderful view from the house. Communication with the host via booking was good. Nice neighbors that helped us with the parking.

Monsanto was a bit other worldly in some ways.

Monsanto was a bit other worldly in some ways. There was an old castle with an archangel Michael chapel - the House of the Dragon, a TV series, was filmed there. Many of the buildings had a huge boulder as one side of the structure or maybe a roof. We loved the hiking around there as well. And the views were spectacular. You could just feel the history around you.

Monsanto has been the highlight of our trip to Portugal and Spain so far. It is so authentic and real, the buildings are amazing and the views are outstanding. The walk up to the Castle is a little challenging but so worth the effort. We were there for the medieval festival and were made very welcome by the locals and we had some memorable times there. If you are in the Douro Valley, make the effort to head to Monsanto if you want to visit an authentic and historic village.

Monsanto is the most unique small town we visited on our 3wk trip to Portugal. You can start to see the massive boulders from the base of the hillside and then it's 5 km straight up winding narrow road. You will need your host to show you where to park.

It is a good idea to book a place for the night.

It is a good idea to book a place for the night. The views are so incredible and unique you will want to experience day and night in amongst the boulders. There is a wonderful hike to the ruins above the boulder village. There is spectacular lighting in the evening. The village is quite out of the way for travelling. This was our second visit to Monsanto so we knew to book for the night. Lots of unique places to eat. We ate at our hosts' spot and it was great. Once you arrive amongst the boulders, you don't have to leave until your stay is over. You can find all you need there.

It's a very peaceful place with lots of great views and we found a lovely bistro to eat at. Some of the roads are very steep and you have to park and walk so for someone not so good on their feet this wouldn't be suitable

Helena's place Old House is simply amazing. It is like staying in a museum - a traditional stone house full of traditional objects and social history and perched on the edge of Monsanto with amazing views of the valley below. Helena was so kind and helpful, serving us an incredible breakfast everyday, booking a restaurant for us, giving us tips for local walks and exploring Monsanto. Monsanto itself is also an amazing place. Not to be missed and this is the perfect house to stay in to get a feel for the town.

We absolutely loved our stay at Taverna Lusitana! The hosts (who own and operate the tavern) were welcoming, kind and went out of their way to make our stay there enjoyable. Our accommodations were wonderfully comfortable, spotlessly clean and so unique - we really enjoyed ourselves. The breakfast served to us on the patio overlooking the hillside was delicious. Had we known how beautiful it is in Monsanto, we would have extended our stay there.

A strong 8-point hotel. However I was impressed how I was served despite the fact that I was only one of two persons who were staying on that day (low season)
