About Nazaré

Nazaré, Portugal is a charming seaside town known for its mild, Mediterranean climate. With temperatures ranging from 50°F in winter to 80°F in summer, it's a year-round destination.

This town is famous for its world-record-breaking surf, with waves reaching up to 100 feet. The iconic lighthouse and Fort of São Miguel Arcanjo are must-see landmarks. Walking or driving are the best ways to explore Nazaré's narrow, winding streets.

The local culture is deeply rooted in fishing traditions, reflected in Nazaré's cuisine. Try the Caldeirada (a rich fish stew), or the region's famous Leiria pastries. The surrounding area offers lush vineyards and the serene Leiria Pine Forest.

Quaint little town with local vibes, great for a few days visit. It was very chilled and quiet and surrounded by beautiful forest. Cuisine is mainly fish and seafood, though there are plenty of Italian and meat places. Also choc a block with gelaterias!!! We caught Carnaval and it was fun to see the cavalcade and the locals dressed up.

What I liked best was seeing the big wave surf contest.

What I liked best was seeing the big wave surf contest. There were these amazing and huge 20-50 ft waves that arrived in sets located near the lighthouse on the cliff at the North Beach while I was in Nazare. The beach was also very nice and wide both north and south of the lighthouse. The sunsets were spectacular, and I enjoyed watching the sun set while drinking wine and people watching at the little beachside restaurants. I also enjoyed walking down south to the marina and going north to the surf museum at the lighthouse on the big cliff in the town of Sitio. The local bus only cost €1.50 to ride from Nazare (near the central market) to Sitio where the lighthouse is located. The traditional food (seafood) was really fresh and I liked that the tradition of fish drying that is done by the fish ladies was still being practiced.

Great beach but the real action is on the hill in Sitio where there are the great surf waves to be seen in the winter months and the very impressive display of surf boards and photos of the guys who've surfed the world's biggest waves in Nazare,

One of the nicest towns we've visited during our stay in Portugal. Long and wide beach, amazing views, all the restaurants and cafes close by. Mind that we were there in February, so it wasn't that crowded.

    Are you kidding?

Are you kidding? I grew up surfing and I was completely blown away by Nazare's heretofore unknown to me off the charts natural beauty. It was so incredible that we stayed there on the way up driving to Porto and we stayed again coming back down to Lisbon (BECAUSE SURF WAS UP). Lovely still little fishing town that is turning into the world's best surfing town, hopefully it doesn't lose that small town appeal. Totally friendly towns folk, fantastic seafood (several restaurants), loved the grilled whole seabass. The town just had a feel or vibe, deeply spiritual (my wife said a town can't have a spiritual feel but it did for me!). Go there!

One of our favorite towns on our Portugal trip.

One of our favorite towns on our Portugal trip. We were there in mid-November so it was not crowded - we were the only folks on the beach. Beautiful scenery, going to see the big waves was a dream of mine. Food was really good. We were only there one night, I think for me 2 would have been perfect. Could see a longer stay in the summer but also not sure how the crowds would change the experience.

OH, Simply amazing! An old masion turn into a hotel, antique furniture, but the bed was with modern matrass and very comfy. Living room, library, for shared use. The "honesty bar" gives a chance to try local spirits. There is cola too. And nespresso. The breakfast was served in the old barn. All very romantic and time travel feeling. Loved it! The stuf is the owners. Met us in person. Wish I could stay there longer. The best stay of our 11 day Portugal vacation. Will return!

Room and bathroom were very clean. Comfortable beds. Rm 303 was cosy with a great view to Nazare beach, a one-minute walk away. Many restaurants in the area. Good wifi. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They had reserved a parking space for us (very important even though it's the end of November!) and walked with us to the spot, insisting to carry our small bags. Heating was fast, efficient and much appreciated on a very cold, wintry night.

Compared to the many other hotels and guest houses I've seen on my motorcycle tour in Portugal the experience at the FIKA was really exceptional. It's the spirit of the host (Veronica) that makes you feel at home immediately. The guest house was built, furnished and decorated with great attention to detail and has everything you need, even for a long stay. Next time in Nazaré, I'm sure where to go :-)

The hotel is very close to the beach only about 2 blocks away. It is centrally located only a 5 minute walk to the bus station and next to a supermarket which is very convenient. On the main road next to the beach there is are signs for a lot of hotels and Hotel Praia has it's own sign at the corner, so it makes it easy to find when walking around. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.

The apartment had balcony and huge door-window towards ocean filling room with light and sound of ocean waves. Apartment had all needed equipment in kitchen if one wishes to cook/eat in room. There was a pool, but we did not use it as weather was warm and ocean called us more. This was one of the best places to stay in whole Portugal and worth of every penny we paid.

Best hotel I've been in Portugal! Great location, the staff was amazing - David and Mariana did everything they can to make it best stay. Explain about the city and activities. Breakfast was also very good. The rooms are big with a little balcony, the bathroom is well equipped. There are also towels for beach and the location is very good, close to everything.

Actually I liked everything. Unlike to some other properties we stayed in Portugal, here there were no musty smell at all. Only freshness. The house is spacious, airy and stylish. Everything was matching my taste. The house can be someones dream. The host is friendly, but not intrusive, so we had our privacy, what I liked a lot. I will recommend this place.

Most excellent room! View of the beach from our porch where we could watch an INCREDIBLE sunset! Staff was great, spoke multiple languages and handled everything we needed with ease. The pictures are the sunset from the front of the hotel. ALSO- 2 of the best meals of our entire vacation at the Restaurant associated with the hotel.

A place for pleasant relaxation, two pools on the terrace - for adults and children, there is a warm pool inside. The windows of the restaurant offer an amazing view of the city of Nazare, the cliffs, the beach. Breakfast was excellent. The hotel staff is very responsive, an excellent team. To the city center by car 15 minutes.

One of the best accommodations we stayed in Portugal. Well equiped, heated (super important for winter stay in PT), clean and light.. In the center of old part of Nazare. Few minutes walk to panoramic site and lighthouse. Stairs walk or cable car to the coastline. Thank you for the experience!

We had breakfasts at very nearby restaurants and those breakfasts were the best we had in Portugal. We could have used Real Holiday's very beautiful and well equipped kitchen but chose to try local cuisine.
