Very charming hotel, staff is really helpful. Room is big, good finishings, bed comfortable. Extra pillows and blankets provided. Small bath but actually perfect size to relax (in my opinion). the bar in the hotel is also welcoming and cozy, good choice of drinks and has a pool table! really close to the entrance to the walled village. Has a few parking spaces which can be used for free by the guests.

Fantastic location. Wonderful treat to stay in a castle overlooking a magical town. Picture perfect. The details like coffee and cookies and cherry liquor treats made it very special.

Great location literally a few steps away from the city wall. Easy to reach, no need to climb up to the hotel with your luggage, possibility to park right in front of the hotel and even in the parking garage of the hotel. If this is not available, there are big public parking areas nearby. No stairs to take to reach the hotel - once you are in Obidos you will understand what a great thing it is. Lovely rooms with extraordinary, panoramic view. There is an elevator in the hotel. Very nice breakfast and helpful staff. Close to some good restaurants and to the stairs to enter city walls for a nice stroll around medieval castle. One of the few hotels with a swimming pool. All in all a great experience!

The hotel was very interesting with the books everywhere.
Super quaint town worth making your way too. We stayed just under 20 hours and could have stayed at least one more day to enjoy the Castle and town more fully. Restaurant at Castle was amazing. We had dinner and breakfast. Both were memorable. Some tables have amazing views: be sure to ask for those. We took bus from Lisbon which drops you outside of steps into town. Don’t walk the long way around like we did. Steps bring you right onto the Main Street. Lots of cute shops and restaurants up and down street.
Óbidos is a quiet, cosy and tiny village lying in Central Portugal. It is dominated by a castle that overlooks the entire village; however, it is not possible to visit it, because it has recently been transformed as a private, upscale accommodation. This is a bit disappointing. My favourite places were the town centre that can be visited in a couple of hours due to its limited dimension. It is very pretty and is a set of picturesque alleys and closes where it is lovely to stroll around. The town is full of typical restaurants and eateries in order to enjoy delicious, Portuguese food. They are not cheap places though, and you can expect to pay quite a lot if you intend to travel on a budget.
Obidos as a destination is tourism at the extremes. It starts getting day trippers from early one and by lunchtime it heaving. The pretty village cannot but feel like a tourist trap from then one. Quietens down late in the afternoon and first thing in the morning, when it is nicer for those who stay.
Óbidos is very overrated. It’s a place that has a lot of potential. But it is extremely dirty. Lots of rubbish everywhere. The merchants and restaurant operators place their garbage in the walkways. And the place is overrun with tourists who drop their trash everywhere.
this is an amazing historic place but it is a tourist trap and feels rather like a theme park in high season so probably best to visit in off peak season . restaurants seemed very expensive and not great for vegetarians(which is true everywhere in Portugal except Lisbon )Extremely hot in summer , small guest house rooms can be unbearably stuffy and hot resulting in a sleepless night . Very few grocery shops for self catering and expensive. Not really geared towards foot travellers , absolutely no helpful signs or directions from the completely unstaffed and boarded up train station- rather a surprise at a UNESCO listed site. Very tacky and sad medieval 'experience ' best avoided . Recommended restaurants were apparently closed on particular days though this was not apparent from any signage. We gathered from a notice that there are plans to improve the train access and station - lets hope so ! A little shuttle bus service to the old town would have been preferable to hauling luggage in blistering heat up roads with no footpaths. The international Piano Festival was a real treat and we attended a wonderful piano recital .
Super location inside the castle walls. Quite an adventure getting there, so don’t panic over the GPS guidance. Cannot park near hotel, so pack lightly for the visit and leave the excess luggage in the car for the long walk back down. Staff are great. Breakfast is basic but good. Would stay again.
