Offering free WiFi, a sun terrace with a swimming pool, garden and BBQ area, Quinta das Rosas Villas is located in Ribeira Grande. The rooms and property were lovely. There is a (free) washing machine there, though it is communal (for the three villas that are at the property) and up the stairs to the terrace of the property. A drying rack is provided. The views from the terrace are outstanding. It is conveniently located in Ribeira Grande, there is room to park behind the gate of the property, but only two vehicles. Parking on the street was easily had and free, however.
Located in the São Miguel Island of the Azores archipelago, Casa da Flor offers accommodations in double rooms and free WiFi. This unit is located in Ribeira Grande, 5.6 mi from the Fire Lagoon. The owners welcomed us like friends and were very helpful and knowledgeable about the area, attractions, hiking trails, restaurants, etc. We appreciated the breakfasts and the fact that the owners provided us with a cooler bag so that we could pack a satisfying lunch with extra food from breakfast. The location was perfect for exploring the entire island and near great restaurants. We enjoyed staying in Ribeira Grande rather than the larger Ponta Delgada.
Amazing place. I didn't stay in town, but in the hills in a small village. I walked from there to the hills and back. I enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine, then headed off after only two nights. The hotel I stayed at offered guided tours/walks/hikes, but I did my own thing.
The restaurant Alabote is pricey but good. I went tho the local modern art museum (Archipelago), which was professional and nice for €3 (though odd in the way of most modern art). The immigration museum was also interesting, only €1, though had more of a dusty historical society feel. Everything is walkable, and it feels very safe even at night (single female traveler here).
The family that runs Villa Laura is very friendly, Manuel is an excellent guide and staying there was like staying in a house of friends. The trips Manuel organizes are something that makes your Azores holiday an unique experience. We would deffinitely like come back.
Ribeira Grande was a cute spot on the island. It was a sleepy town compared to other locations, however. One really great restaurant near by, but not much to pick from. The local beach, sadly was littered with garbage and the nice beach (25 minute walk away) meant we had to walk through some pretty sketchy neighbourhoods. Ribeira Grande suited our purpose because accommodations were affordable and we were gone each day, hiking and day tripping.
We liked that it was very central for visiting all areas of the island while getting to stay in a smaller town rather than the larger city of a Ponta Delgada. We enjoyed meals at Alabote, Restaurants O Silva, and Restaurant Caldeiras. A good map of the village helps as there are many one-way streets.
Ribeira Grande and the entire island are spectacular. The people in Ribeira Grande are friendly and helpful, they were eager to try English and were welcoming at their local town square where we met many locals and enjoyed the hospitality of this lovely town. Sao Miguel is the most beautiful place I have ever been, having traveled a fair bit the natural beauty was awe striking, and the fact that it can be enjoyed without an entry fee every time you go anywhere. When you do of to the thermal baths, it's 4 Euro's and the other one was 2 Euro's the most expensive place we went was 8 Euro's. Food and Drink are really reasonable. We hope the rest of the world doesn't discover this paradise

We were very kindly welcomed and accompanied by Rossana and Eduardo during the 2 days we spent in Ribeira Grande. We had nice discussions and exchanges. Wonderful breakfast with so nice home made organic jams / confitures prepared by Rossana. We also recommend the tasteful cakes prepared by Eduardo. Our bedroom was vast, fully equipped and with a beautiful view 270 degrees on sea and mountains through panoramic bow windows. No doubt, We fully recommend Rossana’s Matrix guest house.

This is a place which I would rate with more than 10 stars if it was possible. The hosts are very nice and helpful; the room and the whole guesthouse were spotlessly clean, comfortable and beautifully designed; the breakfast was tasty and offered choice of local Azorean products. The location is also perfect - it was easy to reach any spot on the island from Ribeira Grande. This place certainly contributed to making our stay in São Miguel unforgettable.

Everything from the check-in to check-out was perfect. Especially João and his wife were amanzingly friendly. The rest of the staff was also great and ready to help with anything. The stay at Quinta das Rosas was amazing. The property is centrally located, a beautiful and surprising hideout behind an unassuming city wall. The host Eduardo did everything to make us feel at home and recommend us places to visit. The Azores are a gem.
