Hotel in São Vicente
Overlooking the valleys of São Vicente, this restored 18th-century manor house features a garden with a heated swimming pool. We were to spend 2 nights at the Estalagem and eventually spent 4. The hotel offers comfortable rooms for a very decent price and is located in an extremely scenic environment. The garden is lovely and this is an ideal place to relax and discover a region of Madeira that is less touristy than Funchal. All the staff were friendly but actually the true treasure of this hotel is the chef, João, who is an amazing cook. We dined at the hotel restaurant every night and João prepared us delightful dishes, both fish and meat, using very fresh ingredients. A very good adviser for wines too, he gave us a lot of good tips about Madeira and we truly appreciated his kindness and attentiveness of every moment. Making such nice people is really a rare experience. We look forward to coming back soon!

Located in a restored 18th-century home, Casa Da Piedade offers a lounge with fireplace, outdoor garden with barbecue and brightly decorated rooms. Wi-Fi and parking are free. First of all, the hosts were great. Rubina welcomed us so warm, and was really helpful throughout our stay. We even got a welcome treat which was a great touch, especially queijada which was an intro to the great pastry that Madeira has to offer. Even before our arrival hosts offered to help us with a rental car which we accepted. The car company they connected us with was great and we got a car for a considerably lower price than what we could find online. I would say a car is almost a must for this property, especially considering its position - you can reach a lot of parts of the island easily from it. In addition, there is a lot of parking space on premises. The house and the room were really great. Everything was clean and the beds were really comfy. The room had a nice colorful vibe. We did not use the garden that much but it looks peaceful and nice with a swimming pool. One thing I would recommend are the restaurants near the sea, especially Caravela (try lapas grelhadas!). You should definitively visit Poncha De Sao Vicente as well and try one of the best poncha we had on the island.

Madeira Madeira Surf Lodge is a homey property just a 1-minute drive from the sea. It is a and a 6-minute drive from the São Vicente Caves, one of Madeira’s most recognizable landmarks. Ruben and his wife Andreia are exceptional. Welcoming and always ready to help us and give us informations. The place is a little green paradise and the furniture had an artistic twist that we really appreciated. Our check out was really early in the morning and Ruben made sure to have our breakfast ready anyways.

Located a 15-minute walk from Volcanic caves of São Vicente, Pereira Place offers a terrace, and accommodations with a balcony and free WiFi. The Apartment is huge, super clean and beautiful furnished and decorated. Filipe gave us an warm welcome with self made marmelade (yammi) and really good advices. Thank you very much! We really enjoyed the full and best equipped kitchen, the big living room and the super super comfortable bed. Furthermore you have many space for your stuff in wardrobes and so on. We really liked the quite surrounding so that we could even sleep with open window. Nethertheless you can walk to really good restaurants, bakeries, the supermarket and of course the beautiful wild coast. We've stayed there three nights and could have stay more because there are many things to see: Many many Hiking trails on the coast and in the mountains and Porto Moniz and Seixal with the natural pools for example. We highly recommend the apartment and would ever come back again. First class accommodation!!! Thank your very much Filipe for all!!
The village is absolutely beautiful. Ideal for walking around. The views are just stunning, especially if you walk on top of the hill where the small chapel is. It's just difficult to get there if you want to use public transport. Buses there are a nightmare. We were lucky enough that our previous host took us there from Funchal. Otherwise we would struggle as nobody whom we asked in Funchal knew where the bus stop was for bus going to Sao Vicente.
Sao Vicente is a small town on the north side of Madeira, rather less well known than most of the south side of the island. It has an interesting old church, a garden of indigenous trees (for plant enthusiasts), volcanic caves and interpretation centre (for geology enthusiasts) and several good restaurants (for foodies!). From Sao Vicente you can travel along the north coast; westwards to Seixal and Porto Moniz, eastwards to Boaventura, Sao Jorge or Santana. Drive inland to Encumeada, the starting point for several superb hikes, or drive up to the Paul da Serra moorlands. The roads around here are in good condition and easy to drive, there's not much traffic and the local drivers are quite considerate. I've visited this area at various times of the year, for hiking and plant spotting, and there's always something new. Food and drink? No problems! There is everything from simple roadside bars where you can share your coffee break with the locals to top quality restaurants serving authentic Madeiran dishes.
We saw very little of Sao Vicente on our short trip, since we were mainly occupied either seeing the sights in Funchal or else visiting along the coast to the East and West, rather than actually digging deeper locally. No time for a meal out, even though the hotel dining room was no good in the evenings. We've done a lot of caves before, so did not want to committ to that. So all we did was drive through it about six times without stopping to visit! Next time maybe, as it looks a good, if small, place to see more of.
Spend some time in the small town, but the real advantage of Sao Vicente's location is the remote rentals and surrounding levadas. Caves are impressive but quite overcrowded with tourists - the best parts of this islands are seen on your own. Be friendly and kind in greeting locals; expect to learn some Portuguese beforehand if you want to be welcomed. Buses are infrequent and not very reliable, advance taxis (24hr beforehand) are essential if not driving. The Lavrador restaurant was by far the best I tried in my 10 days on the island!
Nice and quiet town, not too many turists here. It is very nice just to watch the ocean, walk in the park, see the flowers, go to the rock chapel. There is almost anything that is needed, like supermarket, pharmacy, many restaurants. Restaurant Caravelle is just amazing!
Sao Vicente is a lovely village and you can make several great walks. It always will be pleasant to have a car to do so.\ At the seaside there are very nice locations to have a meal or a drink .The volcanic caves I have visiting were a wonderful unique experience
São Vicente
The apartment is close to the seaside and a cute church. Both are visible from the terrace and from the rooms. The bus stop is near, but if you wish to travel further west (like Porto Moniz and Seixal) , you have to change buses in Sao Vicente. The apartment is simple, clean and comfortable even for 6 persons, because there are two bathrooms. We had no complains at all. For those who have a problem with waiting for buses we suggest to rent a car. Otherwise the the apartmant and the whole north side of Madeira is recommended.
São Vicente
We really enjoyed the beautiful, rural location of this hotel, steeps hills and all! It was peaceful and charming overall, and the room was very relaxing with everything done perfectly. The staff were kind and personable, the pool was lovely and I had it all to myself when I went swimming. The bed was very comfortable with good pillow options. The local herb garden was another perfect touch to a charming overall experience.
São Vicente
The little house is perfect for a stay in Sao Vicente. Is has everything you need for a comfortable stay. We highly appreciated that it had a washing machine. We were greeted with a bottle of Madeira wine and home made cookies, very thoughtful. Janine who administrates the property, is a wonderful person, very attentive and communicative. She gave us lots of info on where to eat, drink, trekking spots and so much more.
São Vicente
The location was outstanding with the ocean right outside the window and next door were plenty of bakeries for breakfast, restaurants for lunch and dinner, bars for relaxing and a supermarket too for everything else. It was also easy to get everywhere in north and western Madeira from Sao Vicente. The apartment was spacious, pleasant, and had all the essentials.
São Vicente
Teresa, our host, was very thoughtful. The apartment is lovely and very nice fitted and perfect stuffed. We missed nothing. Thank you Teresa for everything. The location is also perfect - you need a car, but then all areas are reachable very fast. Sao Vicente has very good restaurants, which are only 10 min. away and a supermarket is nearby.

We really enjoyed the stay at the hotel, the view is amazing, there restaurant and shops nearby, it's pretty quiet, so it's great for relaxation.
