we chose this property at the last minute, with no research and 100% based on the outside appearance. And thank God for that! it’s incredibly charming and well located and well priced. I felt so at home there and wish I could have stayed more than one night. It was my favorite property in Portugal, and the only one to which I really want to return.

It is much better, easier, cheaper to stay in Lisbon and just take the train to Sintra (50 minutes - many trains all day both ways). Avoid much of the hill climbing and trekking about town - easy to start from train station and get anywhere.
Sintra is a tourist city. The city is beautiful and full of culture and history. Great for those who love exploring. The only problem is the high prices compared to restaurants and markets in the country's capital. But it's definitely worth it! I highly recommend Sintra!
Like many places in Portugal, a few days here are far from enough! The longer you stay, the more you realize that you didn't come for long enough. This region has so much to explore! From architectural and historic discoveries, to peaceful forest hikes and mind-blowing beaches! My recommendation to anyone coming here for a few days would be to not get overwhelmed with the amount of things to do and simply accept the fact that you'll have to return if you want to explore the region in more depth :) Since it's such a magical place, it can get packed pretty quickly - especially during top-season - so maybe travel during shoulder months or, if this is your summer destination, make sure to pre-book museums, reserve restaurants, and come to places early! And probably don't attempt driving around Sintra. The streets are windy and narrow, and trying to find street parking is virtually impossible. Walking, Ride-share apps, or tuk-tuks are your best bets!
Beautiful spot with lots of history. Very crowded. Peña Palace experience not enjoyable as I would have liked as too many people at once had to shuffle along shoulder to shoulder all the way through. The national palace is better on the inside and less crowded. The bus is a rip off, most expensive bus ride ever!
Two days is not enough to see all the historic sights of Sintra. If you are in a group get an Uber to the sights as it is no more than the tourist bus 434. The Pena Palace can fill several hours if you wish but even being there early will not mean you beat the crowds so book ahead regardless. At Quinta da Regaleria the cafe is very expensive so you might wish to plan ahead and bring your own food. There are great family owned restaurants over the footbridge at the railway station. Don't forget your water bottle as the hills are steep and demanding.
Buy tickets for Quinta ahead of time, otherwise you have to queue to buy tickets then join a different queue to enter. Quinta was a lovely place to amble and explore the grounds. We went early and the queue was still substantial to enter and once inside another queue for the initiation well, which was pretty! There was no queue to Moorish Castle, I loved it there, quieter, lush, offered great views. We got a tuk tuk up to avoid the heat and enjoyed the walk back down, stopping at a lovely craft bar en route. Missed out on the palace because you have to book a certain time slot, so do that in advance. Otherwise, the food and drink were great in all establishments we visited. We spent a day at Praia Grande, having got an Uber out and ended up staying there to have dinner and watch the sunset. Got to 9pm and was unable to get an Uber back. Struggled to get a local taxi as many didn’t understand English and we had trouble explaining where we were. Luckily the restaurant staff helped us there. So make sure you have a way back! Or pre-book your Uber.
