Swissotel Al Maqam Makkah

Hotel in Ajyad, Mecca

Overlooking the holy city, Swissotel Al Maqam Makkah stands tall at the heart of the Muslim world. The facilities were top notch - rooms were really good. The buffet downstairs (around $25) was really worth the money. The location is perfect - 5 minutes and you will be in the haram. But for me where I was really impressed was with the service provided by two particular individuals. Firstly, we met with the front of staff Nasri who went out of his way on multiple occasions to ensure our stay was great. The second individual who impressed us was Adil. Both of them really made our experience go from a 7/10 to 10/10. Thank you Nasri and Adil.

FAQs about hotels in Mecca

The Holy City

This holy city is located in western Saudi Arabia and is also known as Makkah. It is one of the Five Pillars of Islam to make a pilgrimage here, and therefore is a destination for millions of Muslims each year. Prophet Muhammad was born here and it is a sacred place for Muslims and the birthplace of Islam.

Non-muslims are not permitted into Mecca and the government of Saudi Arabia issues special visas for people making the pilgrimage. Most people coming to the Mecca will enter via the Hajj Terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport and Jeddah is the gateway to the city.

The Hajj has a fairly set itinerary including a visit to the Sacred Mosque, al-Masjid al-Haram, built around the Kaaba. Mecca contains many restaurants with varied cuisine and tea shops are available for light refreshments such as traditional tea and cookies. There are also many juice stands for a little refreshment amid the heat. Ranging from luxury hotels to basic accommodations, Booking.com offers over 80 hotels for your time in Mecca.
