Skellefteå is a town with an intriguing history.

Skellefteå is a town with an intriguing history. A pretty town on the banks of a large river. The view across the river of the beautiful main church has been obscured by an ugly multi-story parking garage. Who thought up that damaging action? The town is currently in the grips of street optimization. The narrowing of the main East-West street, is questionable and will soon cause traffic congestion. The station is still in place, but no rail traffic goes there apart from goods !! The infrastructure around the railway and station needs to be optimized and take advantage of the existence of a rail link to the rest of Sweden and the outside World.

I stayed 5 days, mid September, for a conference and had...

I stayed 5 days, mid September, for a conference and had some free time. When it wasn't raining, I enjoyed beautiful walks along the river (4 hour circuit), and I ran to the coast (12 km away), and through forestry roads. Easy returns by public transport as the busses are frequent and accept credit card. I did not need Swedish money at all during my stay. The town museum is a must see, even if small, and you should visit the historical part of town, which is nearby. I confess to only having eaten asian food while in town. I did not identify a restaurant with Swedish food, which I would have liked to try.

I was born and raised in the city so it may be a bit adjective what I think, but ate good food and there are many good restaurants, but as the city is growing it can or must be booked in advance. From the hotel it is walking distance to all shopping and restaurants. For the adventurous one should probably book accommodation on the outskirts of the city.

Skellefteå is THE up-and-coming city.

Skellefteå is THE up-and-coming city. Construction is everywhere. The wooden high-rise, which also houses the city's cultural center, and the Wood Hotel are fantastic. Many new buildings are wooden. The Bronnbyn church village, the open-air museum, and the oldest church in the area are absolutely worth seeing. Unfortunately, the Museum Kunst für Alle (Museum of Art for All) is closed for renovations until 2025.

The parking system was a disaster. Max 2 hours parking. There was a parking lot but too far away. We lived on Rådhusgatan, not good dragging the bags in the pouring rain to the nearest long-term parking, what was the city thinking there.

Everything was the best this weekend.

Everything was the best this weekend. Exhibition at the museum and a walk with the dogs in wonderful autumn weather. Very good food at Miss Voon. Luxurious accommodation and the best service for us and the dogs. And a great evening with Peter Jeswski and rocking music.

Usually I am not found of big hotels and prefer smaller family run businesses. But this one is absolutely amazing if you are interested in architecture. The whole structure is in wood, and this is well visible from both inside and outside. Everything was top: comfortable, quiet, a very good restaurant in 4th floor.On top of this, the breakfast was truly unbelievable. Swedish breakfast in hotel are usually very good but this one topped absolutely everything I have seen before in variety and quality of locally sourced, homemade dishes.

Breakfast was great, could improve the coffe station. Friendly and helpful staff! The staff helped a great deal ,after driving 11h to Skellefteå with 3 tired small children they were able to use their magic wand so we could have a room a few hours earlier ☺️ o highly recommend the hotel and would definitely book here again.
