If you are looking for a peaceful, soul searching place to visit, Chiang Dao is the place to go. As long as you don't have 'western' style expectations you will love it! The food is incredible, the locals are warm and welcoming, the culture is breath taking and the 'take-aways' will keep you stress free forever 😊
Great place if you look for nature, authentic small town, places to see without many tourists, and jungle. I suggest a visit to Mae Mae village, worth the long ride (bike it only if you're really fit)
Many things to do in Chiang Dao. First is a visit to Chaing Dao Caves. Go early in the morning to avoid crowds. We paid for the guided tour and saw much more of the cave with the guide carrying a lantern. There are hot springs to visit in the area and numerous temples. One major temple on the mountain though takes 500 steps to reach the top. Two nights is just right. Not too far from Chiang Mai.
Is it possible to review a small town? Apparently Booking reckons it is. Chiang Dao is a lovely little place. Have a look at the caves. The temple up in the forest hill is magical. Pay a quick visit to the hell garden near the main street. Apparently there's a market but I've never been to it. Eat at Nest 2 because it's some of the best Thai food you'll ever eat. Finish off the evening with a pint and a game of pool at the Cave Bar. Result = happiness.
