This is a spotless, well run hotel just a very short cab ride to Göreme. We were greeted by Gülay, the kind woman who prepares a delicious breakfast. A lot of the foods are home made or locally sourced which makes this experience more authentic. The local stores, restaurants and cafés are about a 15 min walk.
Mr. Hafiz also has a talent in the kitchen. We decided to purchase dinner here almost daily. It took away the decision making. All you have to do is let him know what you wish to eat and he tried his darnest to accommodate you. The price is also very reasonable. He can also arrange tours, transport. This is a very knowledgeable local man.
The balloons are at the mercy of the wind, but you get a view regardless from the rooftop and you also get to see a nice view of cave homes. This experience has been unbelievable peaceful.
I highly recommend this place.

The property is situated in a beautiful setting with all the facilities you require on a leisure trip. The host Ms. Fatima treats the guests like it is her home and makes them feel very comfortable. The team put an extra effort to ensure there were a couple of vegetarian options in the breakfast every morning which for us was a big deal, so thank you once again!

Ortahisar is a village still undergoing "renovation" and less frequented compared to neighboring villages like Göreme, Uçhisar, and Ügrüp, which are decidedly more "charming." Nonetheless, it's an excellent accommodation option and serves as a starting point for exploring Cappadocia, especially if you have your own car for getting around.

Its less touristy than Goreme.
Its less touristy than Goreme. Also it is closer to the Keyseri airport. Nearby towns like Urgup are better and cheaper for shopping and eating although Goreme is not very far. If you want Indian, Korean, or American fast food Goreme is the place though. Ortahisar is quieter than Goreme.

This is a town that is close to all the main sights in Cappadocia (about 10 minutes' driving) but has still not become too touristy. If you want a more authentic experience of Cappadocia, go here. If you prefer to have restaurants and cafes with staff who speak fluent English and shops selling souvenirs and carpets, you are better off going to Goreme or Uchisar. To us, Goreme is too commerical so we hope Ortahisar maintains its "local" feel. The town is quite small and has a quaint castle that is like a miniature version of the more famous Uchisar castle, which you can climb to get a good view of the area. Everyone is very friendly and tries very hard to make you feel welcome, even when you don't share a common language. You can eat at Beey Kebap and Hisaronu in the main square - they don't look fancy but the food is good and honest. You can have tea with a view of the hills also by the square at Cafe Ali'nin Yeri. And don't miss the wine cave just next to the castle entrance, called Kalesi restorant where you can try local wines including some that are mixed with fruit juice. There is a market on some days of the week on the corner of Ali Kayacan Cd. and Hibe Dede Cd., and a small bakery called Seten Pide Firini where you can get fresh pide (Turkish pizza). The town is still very cheap compared to Goreme and Uchisar. You don't need a car to get around since it's quite small and easily walkable.

The castle is fantastic, but our favorite find was the nature walk that starts at Tafoni Houses Hotel and winds through a valley (I forgot which) and ends at this bridge where I took the photo. It wasn't steep, but we got to feel like we were all alone...remnants of pigeon houses, and the occasional local doing their daily chores. Magic!

What I liked the most was the stone room, which was big and nice and the cosy garden in front of it. And I mustn”t forget the receptionist who is very helpful, although he doesn t speak English.
We ate at The Zula restaurant which had a great view, great Turkish food and it wasn t expensive either.
To get around Ortahisar we used google maps.
I would come back to Ortahisar because it is close to Goreme but not so expensive and crowded.

Ortahisar is a small, charming town in Cappadocia.
Ortahisar is a small, charming town in Cappadocia. If you want a bustling area with a lot to do immediately on hand, Ortahisar is probably not the best place. What you will get, however, is genuine kindness and care from the people there. Every person we met was helpful and genuine. The town is charming, with it's own castle, beautiful viewpoints, and history. We especially enjoyed lunch and dinner at Ugurlu Restaurant (on the main road) that had excellent food, with a traditional flair. Fortunately, access to the rest of Cappadocia is easily available from Ortahisar via taxi or car. Ortahisar, like most of the region, is built on a hill and can be difficult to access if you have mobility issues.
