It is a place to explore. the tour busses will only take you to the well known places but if you explore yourself it has a lot more to offer. Its not as expensive as other places in turkiye and food is good.

Trabzon is a perfect destination for those who love quieter,...

Trabzon is a perfect destination for those who love quieter, more authentic places where you can get a glimpse into a real life of locals. The city is located in Karadeniz Region of Turkey and boasts a number of beautiful spots. First of all, visit the city Pazar (market) where you can shop for food, clothes, shoes etc, stop for a cup of tea or coffee, or enjoy a delicious Turkish meal. If you love fish, go to Roka Balik downtown, the food there is amazing. Trabzon is famous for its cheese, hazelnuts, and tea, so you can get all these things at great prices. Secondly, drive up the Boztepe Hill from where you can get the most beautiful view of Trabzon and the Black Sea. There are lots of cozy cafes there so a cup of tea from a traditional samovar is a bonus. Then walk down the narrow streets to the embankment, have dinner in one of the numerous restaurants and watch the sun disappear into the sea. If you love history, Trabzon is the place to be! Trabzon Castle, Hagia Sophia, old buildings - we saw and admired it all. I recommend moving around the town on foot as this will allow you to really feel the atmosphere of the place. Don't forget to visit Meydan - the main square of Trabzon with old trees, colourful flower beds, and classy cafes. We loved Kahve Duniasi - good coffee, delicious dondurma, and an endless row of sweets. Rent a car (preferably with a driver) and go on day trips to Sumela Monastery, Uzungol Lake, and Ayder Plato. Each trip was an adventure and we enjoyed every minute of it. So, to sum it all up, Trabzon is definitely worth visiting. Advice: not everyone speaks English in Trabzon, so a bit of Turkish will take you a long way!

We stayed in hotel which was near to the Trabzon Square.

We stayed in hotel which was near to the Trabzon Square. It was our favorite place which we walk every night. Also every day we was enjoyed daily tours to Ayder , Uzungol and Zigana. I suggest this type of daily tours to everyone can enjoy. For eating the best place for us was Cemil Usta Restaurant which located in the Trabzon Square. Trabzon was very clean and reachable city. With baby carriage we didn`t suffer from reach to any place or cross the ways. For enjoying in the City I suggest Trabzon Aquarium, Seaside parks and etc.

The Sumela Monastery is a must see.

The Sumela Monastery is a must see. But the bonus is the breathtaking views on the drive up to the Monastry. Nearby Rize and the tea farm is beautiful. But the peace de resistance has to be Ayder. Like the Swiss Alps with its unique Turkish culture. The views is not to be missed. The snow capped mountains with its mountain streams and the “Devil river” used for Riverafting. Lots of construction on the roads, building more tunnels. The construction of the houses, apartments along the mountain slopes, is Engineering perfection.

Trabzon is truly a hidden gem!

Trabzon is truly a hidden gem! This northern Turkish city along the Black Sea is rich in history, culture, and breathtaking natural beauty. From the majestic mountains and serene lakes to the stunning coastline, Trabzon offers something for everyone. Highlights include the iconic Uzungöl, the historic Hagia Sophia, and the awe-inspiring Sumela Monastery nestled in the cliffs. Food lovers will be delighted by the local grills and mouth-watering köfte, which perfectly capture the flavors of the region. Whether you’re exploring scenic landscapes, diving into centuries of history, or enjoying authentic Turkish cuisine, Trabzon is a destination that never disappoints.

I selected this one 'cause of the price - the cheapest place available ~20 EUR for a twin bed, AC, WiFi (no adult video sites, it's Turkey), and a locking door. Also located halfway between the bus station and my destination in the city. Oh, and kinda breakfast.
