Lovely hotel, comfortable, with friendly staff. Lovely bar and restaurant.
Beach very close by, but not really usable for swimming as there are lots of rocks just off the beach and boats moored up in the morning, although good for sunbathing.

Wonderful location just next to beach. Nice swimming pool and hammocks in a shaded area. Clean, spacious rooms with good air conditioning, mosquito nets and staff who treated the room to get rid of insects. The restuarant has a lovely view over the beach and sea, and staff were generally attentive and helpful.

The hotel is beautiful, a lot of attention is put in the details. The pools are big and there are beds and chairs available to enjoy the sun. The staff is very friendly and attentive to your needs. The restaurant prepares delicious foods. The hotel offers daily activities, such as a village tour, yoga, etc. Our room was spacious, we had a balcony and view of the sea. We were very happy with our stay and were able to relax and enjoy the hotel and the beach! If you are looking for relaxing holidays, don’t hesitate to go to Marafiki!

It was nice, quiet, right on the beach and I had a wonderful sea-view room. The staff and manager were friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was okay. The boiled eggs were better than the omelets. There was a different type of juice everyday which was nice, but the rest was pretty much the same. I really enjoyed walking on the beach, though the rather scary looking Massai guys in their red robes will pester you to buy something, but you can simply ignore them for the most part.

We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights. We absolutely loved every part of our stay. We had the feeling that all employees are happy and satisfied, which made our stay especially enjoyable. The location was great and we loved our morning and evening walks on the beach. The food was the best we had during our entire Tanzania trip. Huge compliment to the chef, he's really talented. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Loved the little book corner with the games and the afternoon cake and coffee! The owners are very friendly and welcoming and often came by for a chat. Thank you for this beautiful memory!

After a week long safari on the mainland, we relaxed and rested for a few days in the Zanzibar Queen Hotel and it was a perfect decision. The managing staff (Regina, Darek) were exceptionally welcoming and dedicated a lot of their time to make us feel at home, sharing some interesting info about the island. The reception/restaurant/cleaning staff were great too. The hotel has a big and deep pool surrounded by a beautiful garden with plenty of places to rest on sunbeds and comfy armchairs. There is a row of sunbeds at the beach and, while we have not used them, it seemed that the locals are asked not to bother people using the hotel sunbeds. And the beach... super wide (at low tide) with totally white sand, absolutely gorgeous. Sea urchins make it a bit difficult to enjoy the water but the hotel provides rubber shoes for the guests so at high tide it's just fine to swim near the shore. Breakfast is a buffet with tonnes of options including great coffee. Lunch can be ordered a la carte but there is also a daily special menu for those who want something extra. Dinner menu changes daily as well but there is the possibility to order something else from the regular menu. All food we tried was very very good! The hotel organises some free activities for the guests every day. Yoga in the mornings, reef walks at low tide, some singing and dancing performances in the evenings. You can also get bikes with relatively wide tyres which are great for biking down the beach. Overall, we had excellent vacation and can strongly recommend the hotel!

It’s very quiet, very few non hotel restaurants, overpriced food everywhere, can’t swim in the sea unless you don’t mind knee deep water. There’s no town, or town centre outside the beach hotels, so a long stay would be challenging if you want more than just lounging by the hotel pool.

Matemwe and its area is a quiet place where you can relax and enjoy the beach, the activities (snorkeling, swimming with dolphins) especially if you are a couple, because the village is not very full of enterteinments or night parties.

Crystal clear water - despite there being sea urchins - if you have rock/ aqua shoes - you can still swim and explore the waters and reefs.
The beaches are a lot quieter and peaceful than the busier beaches up north.
The tides are also fascinating to watch- you can walk out to the reefs and cycle along the beaches when they go out!

Marafiki gets a 10/10 from us on all fronts - breakfast, lunch, dinner, pool, cleanliness, hospitality, music, sustainability, beach, communication.
My husband and I stayed 4 nights at Marafiki after our Safari and had the most fabulous time. The rooms were very clean and quiet, and beautifully set up.
The food is exceptional - please try the tuna tartar and all the specials!
We had a relaxing time at the spa - you must try the full body scrub and massages.
We used the free kayaks during sunset and enjoyed the stunning view from the water. The water is shallow so even if you go far, you can get off the kayak and swim.
Since the hotel is east facing - sunrise is exceptionally beautiful. The water is still and shallow, and you can see all the fisherman walk up to the reef to catch the fish.
The hotel also arranged a cooking lesson in Matamwe village for us - we learned how to cook ‘muchuzi’ from scratch which was a very meaningful experience.
Overall- no negatives. We had the best time and will be back!

The beach is beautiful, but it's not really a beach you can swim on - there's a big tidal range - when it comes in it's quite choppy with lots of seaweed, and when it's out its corally with lots of urchins. But it's interesting to watch the local people looking for octopus and shellfish every day.
It's quite a quiet area - all the bars are part of hotels. A few nice local restaurants around. Quite a lot of beach touts, which we found off putting. Not loads of activities to do in the area - 1/2 day snorkelling/dolphin watching trips at Mnemba Island basically.
Everything!!!!
The best service ever! The best hotel in zanzibar!
The hotel is next to the beach. The beach is less for swimming because of many seaweed.
The hotel is beautiful, new, clean, modern, and there is also a spa.
They sang to us happy anniversary and surprised with chocolate cake.
Also the bed was well organized and in the room we found sparkling wine!
The view from the room is outstading, especially during sunrise.
The area is not crowded as other part of Zanzibar and for us it was perfect!
The food was very good!
Zawadi Beach Villas is located at a beautiful beach in Matemwe. The staff in the hotel is very nice and helpful and the hotel itself is spacious, has a swimming pool and its own restaurant. The hotel is a bit outdated and the aircon is not working properly in some of the rooms. It is a nice place to stay though for good value of money. Matemwe beach is very quiet, you won't see too many people around. It is worth to explore the small local restaurants along the beach, while you are there, for an absolutely delicious fish!
Lovely boutique hotel with lovely staff. Very clean room and all communal areas very well looked after. All neat and clean. Breakfast with the best view. Very peaceful. Not tried the pool but was great lounging under the palm trees on the authentic looking deckchair overlooking the sea. Bliss. Limited breakfast options but enough choice for my 3 day stay. Offered packed breakfast on my departure day as I left very early, at 5am. Would definitely go back to Zanzibar Magic again!
Salama & Mbuyuni is an absolutely beautiful, clean and laidback gem in Zanzibar. The owners, Maria and Paco, are an energetic and very social couple from Spain, who have been living on the island for more than a decade. We particularly enjoyed the friendly staff as well as the amazing juices and the pool in the tropical and beach-vibey garden. The breakfast was much better than in most places in Tanzania.
