A few of my favorite spots were CarHart (where I found the lined jeans I was looking for), JC Penney at Fifth Avenue Mall where I got some great deals there too. When I am in Anchorage I always eat at a few different places as Golden Corral (I love the variety of food), PopEyes (It's a southern dish), and of course Bombay Deluxe which has a great lunch buffet of homemade Indian cuisine. I didn't like the natives sitting and laying down in front of bars as we walked by as they were obnoxious and reeked of liquor. Otherwise everything else was fine.
Theatre. Art and History Museums. Great restaurants. WOW scenery, if the weather cooperates. Kind people. Try HUMPY'S for their Reindeer Sausage and Shrimp Jambalaya or BBLT Sandwich. Their big hamburger with grilled pineapple and ham is HUGE.
I don't like going to Anchorage. Between a lack of criminal prosecution & the knowledge that businesses are not allowed to interfere with their crimes, criminals own the place. But Anchorage has all the stores & medical facilities so we don't have any other option. Also, rush hour traffic is more aggressive than anywhere else I've ever seen.
My husband and I were lucky with good weather for our week long stay. We like to hike and there are lots of options nearby from the easy coastal trail to straight up a mountain. Good food and friendly people. We will definitely return.
Anchorage is a nice place to visit. I was there for 2 days after a cruise so I was on sightseeing burn out. I did do a trolley tour which was very nice. Overall, there is a lot to do there if you are there for a week or 2. I was there the second week of September which is the end of tourism season so nice and not crowded, you could also find good deals for souvenirs. The 49th State Brewery was nice, pretty crowded for a Monday and a tour bus was arriving while I was there so a popular place but the food was good and the staff was nice so a pleasant experience.
Enjoyed the zoo and a stop at Cabelas. Puffin Inn is very nice, has helpful staff and is close to restaurants. Village Inn has a good basic menu, Gwennies is an experience and one of the long-running places to eat w/history on display. Hard Rock Cafe and a downtown tour of a few tourist shops was fun. Smashburger merits a stop. The Alaska Herirage Native Center is worth two hours or more of time. Well done. Lyft worked fabulously for several trips about town.
