The staff is great, the place is squeaky clean. But there is no taxi service accommodation, though one of the staff Carter went out his way to help us get a cab one night when we needed one, and I really did appreciate his efforts because we were able to meet up with friends at a distance for food and drinks get together. We also needed a cab to airport when leaving, but I made arrangements with booking.com. I think the hotel has to try and get taxi accommodations for visiting guests or make clear notice of this deficiency because not every one uses Uber... just saying, otherwise all is great.
Great city for booze and food, especially for the singles scene. Mature travelers will enjoy the quaint vs. modern architecture, taco trucks, ubiquitous music, museums and trendy neighborhoods. Stayed on Congress Bridge 2 hours waiting for bats to swarm but they never did, however we caught up on some people watching and got plenty of exercise walking afterward. Scooter rental was too intimidating for us, the Tuk Tuk we spotted would have suited us fine though! Great barbacoa taco at Las Trancas on Cesar Chavez. Wanted to try CJ's but didn't make it, husband was over saturated with Tex-Mex by then. Venezuelan arepas were very satisfying - get on over to Rainey Street and check out the 4 Brothers truck.
If you have kids I recommend you to go to the Aquarium of Austin it was super cool for my kids to see all the animals they had to offer. When you've worked up an appetite I recommend trying Eureka I ordered the Spicy chicken sandwich it was to die for. Downtown Austin is a total vibe it's clean and have so many pedestrian biking or walking their dogs it's so much to do there. First time visiting Austin and it will not be my last time there.
Austin is a beautiful city to see. We took a bike tour around the city that started around the waterfront and went around the city to the capitol. Our highlights were actually the bike tour, seeing the capitol, the Driskill Hotel, numerous speakeasys/jazz and comedy clubs and some very wonderful restaurants. If you stay downtown, I would recommend staying between 2nd and 5th street. The "dirty 6th" gets shady in spots and appears rough. If you're coming to/from the airport into/out of the city, there is the blue bus that you can take (number 20) for $1.25 (even change). It's a nice 35-40 minute ride.
Austin is not as quaint as I thought it would be but it has its charms. The city doesn't have a sense of overall cohesiveness in terms of design. There are too many vast differences in the architecture, looks like everyone is doing their own version of urban city. If it wasn't for SXSW, I probably wouldn't come here again unless I was on a business trip. However I would make the best of all the city has to offer. Seems like the locals are bitter with the incoming crowds of ppl that come for SXSW. If NY was like that, we'd never survive.
Amazing City, brilliant people - so much to do and see, great art and music, fabulous restaurants and bars, wonderful outdoor spaces, the State Capitol is a joy...can't recommend the destination highly enough, has something for everyone.
Austin
This accommodartion is excellent. The building is still pretty new and therefore very modern. I didn't need to pick up a key, since I got numbers for the doors. Inside, it was cosy. The bed was nice, the bathroom clean with a big shower. I had a fully equipped kitchen, but didn't use it, since there were plenty of restaurants in this area. The area is, like the rest of Austin, still growing, with more shops opening over the next weeks, including a supermarket. Downtown Austin is just a 15min walk away.
loved that there is sanitation stations in almost all areas where there is lots of touching like elevator doors and inside elevators. in the hallways and inside the lobby. the room was a good size and beds were comfy. we had a top floor room and it looks really nice being able to look out and see the downtown life of Austin, Texas right under you. I will hopefully be coming here again!
This is literally my favourite hotel I have EVER stayed at. This hotel will be my first and only choice every time I come back to Austin (which is often). Everyone was extremely friendly, I loved the retro vibe, the pool was great, and was everything I needed. We did the queen bed and public washroom.. we were slightly sceptical about this … but it couldn’t have went any better!!
Great location for walking around downtown Austin and bat viewing at Congress bridge and far enough away from 6th street so there wasn't too much noise outside. The hotel honored my request to be placed on a high floor (got 11) but not a river view or away from elevators (river view cost $12 extra per night). Pool was nice with a view of the skyline and a small hot tub area.
We have stayed 2 times when we go to Austin and will always book here! What really got us was how nice and welcoming the staff is. Great location as well. We are able walk to the capital and from there get on scooters and ride around downtown. Again, I really how great the staff is! Have never been to a hotel with multiple friendly employees.
The hotel is very close to the river side - I loved that. It's also located 20 minutes on foot from the downtown and 6th street, but you can take a scooter, they're everywhere. The room was clean, the bathroom looked well and the staff was kind. There is a fridge, microwave and coffe machine in the room.
I had stayed in this hotel before, its location is great, by the I-35 frontage road, just a 5 minute ride from the University of Texas campus. The price is low, and if you are visiting the University or the attractions at the downtown area it is a convenient place to stay.
Austin
This place is amazing. Really unique, retro and funky. Great location in the artsy South Congress area but also not too far from Downtown. Lovely rooms with a retro feel. The diner next to the hotel also does great food and cocktails.
The room had all I needed, with view to the swimming pool. The swimming pool area was fantastic, the location very central, and the staff very friendly. Tommie Austin will be my hotel when in Austin in the future.
Location good, about 12 minutes from downtown Austin ($12 uber ride from 6th street). Only $100/night on a weekend in Austin where downtown hotels easily go for $400+. Free breakfast is pretty good.
The location of the hotel is not to far from Downtown Austin. I really enjoyed the stay. Everything is really close to the hotel. There is a lot of shopping centers near by and it is a really nice area.
Huge, comfortable room. Nice bathroom. Small but well-equipped gym. Decent breakfast. Helpful staff. Very cheap laundry facilities. Good location for downtown Austin.
Austin
The location was ideal to explore Austin. Right on the river, across the bridge from downtown. Also close walk to South Congress shops and restaurants
hotel room itself was was and big and clean. It is located near the airport and quick access to Austin highways. You’re about 10-15 from downtown
good location, accessible for downtown Austin - walkable to the Capitol and Blanton Art Museum and sixth street
My favorite hotel in downtown Austin! I always stay here when it’s not sold out
