Blowing Rock is a great mountain town to visit. Everyone is friendly at the shops and restaurants. Easy access to lots of great adventures in the area. The town center is a great place to sit and enjoy the cool mountain breezes. Every were you look there are beautiful flowers decorating the town. Lots of great places to go and hike near town. The town is beautifully kept, gorgeous flowers everywhere. Very friendly shop keepers. Ate lunch at the Speckled Trout, fun and friendly place. Loved that they get all their food from local sources. Also had a fabulous meal at the Oyster House. Will definitely be back!
Had originally planned on staying on Boone, but ended up in Blowing Rock, and so glad we did. Everything was right there within a short distance. Did Tweetsie Railroad and High Gravity Adventures Zip Lining one day and river tubing at High Mountain Adventures in Boone the next. Must try Sunny Rock for breakfast!
We ate at the Peddler Steakhouse for our anniversary supper. Was a great place to eat, but quite expensive. We saw Blowing Rock, not much of anything, went to Grandfather Mountain, and it was awesome. Went to Linville Falls, and that was great. Rode the Blue Ridge Parkway, but they are working on it, and so it was slow going a lot of the time. Lots to see and do in this area.
Not fancy and no breakfast, but several breakfast restaurants are nearby and room has a refrigerator and microwave oven. Room was clean and bed was comfortable; simple lodging...not paying for extras that weren't needed or wanted. Location in walking distance to activity hub of Blowing Rock: downtown stores, park, and restaurants.

Our main purpose for visiting Blowing Rock was to tour the Blowing Rock Brewery. I wanted a place where we wouldn't need to worry about driving and Hillwinds Inn was perfect. In fact the location surpassed my expectations, with a short walk we were smack dab in the center of town. Inside the hotel lobby, the area was quaint, cozy and inviting, definitely living up to it's name "The Swedenborg Lodge".

The location was excellent, set on a pretty lake and close to Blowing Rock village. The house we rented was huge - much bigger than we were expecting. Check in was easy. The pool was really nice - and nicely heated (it was bright but chilly when we visited!). Blowing rock is gorgeous.
