Immortalised in popular music, culturally diverse Brooklyn has achieved almost legendary status. On the western end of Long Island, across the East River from Manhattan, this huge NYC borough is so densely populated that if it were a city, it would rank as the 4th largest in the US!
The borough is joined to Manhattan by 3 bridges: Williamsburg, Manhattan and the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. It is also linked to Staten Island by the lengthy Verrazano Narrows Bridge. Ocean-going liners pass under here before docking at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook. To the north-east, Brooklyn Bridge Park offers some of the best views of the Manhattan skyline, while south-east is the huge Prospect Park.
On one edge is Brooklyn Museum, the country’s 2nd largest art gallery, and just behind is the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens whose cherry trees bloom a vibrant pink. To the east are some hotels near JFK Airport, and there are more in neighbouring Queens.
At Brooklyn’s southernmost tip, Coney Island’s historic boardwalk has appeared in several films. Regeneration is underway to bring it back to its former glory, and the revamped Luna features a historic wooden rollercoaster. Also historic is the northern Greenpoint district with its elegant 19th-century houses.
Cheap Brooklyn hotels offer a good alternative to accommodation in Manhattan, so check Booking.com for the best deals.
Brooklyn expecially Brooklyn Heights, Red Hook, Prospect Park, Park Slope area is a great alternative to staying in Manhattan or New Jersey...the Transit is simply back to any destination in Manhattan, and it is less expensive to stay in Brooklyn.
Very young populous. Lots of young couples. A great rebirth over the last decade. Brooklyn line of the subway is old, but very clean and functional. great parks and the zoo is fun.(ref: Madagascar). Great choices for food and libations. Well served by Uber and Lyft and even yellow cab. Had some very good street food, and even found a decent bagel shop. Fun weekend or honeymoon spot for a young couple.
Brooklyn is a nice break from New York, it’s friendly, clean and has many places to eat and fresh market shops to self cater. It’s subway links are great for all of New York and more, we went to Brighton Beach in our last afternoon and walked along to Coney Island and got the subway back. Would really recommend staying in Brooklyn
I've lived in Brooklyn for years prior, same old Brooklyn. Lots of things to do, people litter the streets, then they litter on the streets. I like the atmosphere, it's easy to get around as transportation is abundant but driving around is basically a form of torture. It's a city, take what you can get and enjoy. Theres a roller rink near the atlantic mall, thorougly enjoyed that. In addition, we visited the Barbie restaurant, that was a... different experience. Also in Manhattan ice cream is 14 bucks at the trucks, why? Because F*#$&ng stay in Brooklyn!
This was the first time I stayed in Brooklyn and really, really enjoyed it. Usually we stay in Manhattan or Greenwich, CT; however, Brooklyn may be our new go to. Great food, shopping, and vibe. Good time all around.
POSITIVE: Perfect location for us as we were at a wedding 2 streets away. Subway station on the corner as was Kellog's Diner (been there 100 years). NEGATIVE: Modern hotel so rooms felt "spartan". A waste of resources & ecologically poor is having packs for the coffee with sachets x2 each of creamer, sugar, sweetener and x2 stirring sticks as some will always be discarded - in many cases most of it! It would be ecological (& maybe cheaper) to have separate supplies
