As a former Cambridge-area PhD student I know the area very well, though I haven't returned in more than 10 years. It's a very pleasant environment with much to do (cafes, restaurants, bookstores, theatre, the universities, their museums, Mt Auburn cemetery, and much much more). Boston is only a short T-ride away, with all the attractions of a very enjoyable city, at least if you are not visiting in January/February! The Charles river basin and cityscape is attractive, as is much of Boston harbour. The coast both to the north and south is quite beautiful in many places. Cambridge is extremely walkable, one of its best features - essentially at good European city levels. Across the Charles river is Kenmore Square and Boston University, and all the very fine Boston museums (MFA, and Isabel Stuart Gardener both recommended, as is the Museum of Science, though I did not visit any of them on this trip as it was for work). Food is excellent, and the city has great features for all ages IMO. Personally I rate Cambridge/Boston a better *city* combo to visit than Berkeley/SanFran, though of course nature in CA beats that in MA (but MA is still v good).

Since I did not come to Cambridge MA, for tourism, the time I spent there was just right. However, I had the opportunity to roam around a bit and liked the environment. It is an old town, with old-fashioned houses close to each other. There are plenty of trees and vegetation to satisfy a nature lover. The main attraction is, of course, the Harvard University campus, which is also green and neat. There is a sense of history, not monumental but significant. There are some nice cafes, like Tatte, Asaro, and the Friendly Toasts. There are no other kinds of shops, so go to Boston for shopping. The Harvard Art Museum has an extraordinary collection of both European and Asian art, and it is worth visiting. I spent two days and still have not finished seeing everything.

SO beautiful, quiet and convenient. The cafes are all welcoming and friendly, superb choices for all tastes, and weren't too crowded or touristy at all. We didn't do anything locally (were there for the World Cup) but will most certainly go back to take it all in!

The room was dark and badly equipped; several items were broken; there was just one chair. The location was rather isolated: there was nowhere to eat breakfast (beyond a gas station-type convenience store across the street without seating), and the lodging was uncomfortably far from the T (the local metro). Not recommended.

This is a clean, quiet, well maintained, well located facility available at a reasonable rate. It had a great bed . It is about 3 blocks from the subway, and right across the street is a high quality market w/ an extensive deli section (and room to eat on location). The fob system for building entry works well. We found the tv a challenge to navigate to get to standard or cable channels. While our room contained only a microwave & small fridge, there were multiple communal facilities that included full refrigerators. We did find the l bathroom small and lacked room for toiletries, which could be remedied by management by adding a few shelves. All in all this is comfortable, very quiet , clean, well maintained facility and a good value for the money. By the way there is a great and affordable Greek restaurant The Greek Corner Restaurant a short walk away

Stayed one night. Clean, comfortable room. Close to a Red Line station and bus stops if you want to travel further into Cambridge or Central Boston. There is a $25 destination fee per night (i assume this is similar to city tax when staying in Europe), though that amount can be used as credit in the restaurant on food and drinks.

Very nicely located hotel close to a T station and Harvard/MIT, perfect for solo and business travellers. A bit pricey for what you get, but this is true of Boston hotels in general. Really nice roof terrace and the restaurant Althea is great as well. Staff is friendly. The ice cream shop next door is amazing!

Nice, looks upgraded, cozy and small hotel at Porter. Friendly stuff, valet parking (we stayed 3 nights), cleaning on request (didn't use it). Not big room. For a couple of us it was wonderful. Price was the cheapest in the area and hotel itself more comfy, then at Harvard square
