This was our fourth trip to Escanaba, all one night stays to see shows at the casino. I would like to stay a day or two more some time to explore more of the area but that doesn't work for my husband. I enjoyed our stay at Hotel Ludington. Very old and interesting place. We've eaten at Hudson's Grill, Mo's bar and grill, The Ludington grill and the Swedish place that I can't think of the name of (there are billboards for it). I'm looking forward to going back.
I'm very familiar with the area. I've been visiting there for over 10 years. It's got plenty for shopping needs, a theater, variety of places to eat, the large park is wonderful, and its scenic areas such as lakes/beaches/pier are beautiful as well as great biking/walking trails and more.
Tons of parks and nature nearby. We enjoyed Haymeadow Falls and Van Cleve Park in nearby Gladstone. There’s a good bike path for biking around. Parks in Escanaba and Gladstone have massive castle playgrounds great for kids!
A pleasant, easy-going place. It's difficult to judge a community during the pandemic, but everyone we met during our stay was welcoming and friendly (with the one exception being Saykllly's on M41/US 2 who seemed bothered by having customers while they were doing inventory and anxious for us to leave). The restaurants that we ate at had excellent, well-trained wait staff and the food was delicious. We loved the number of trails where you can walk or bike along the bay. You can easily walk from downtown to the bay as well. Ludington Park is spacious and was a comfortable place to sit and read by the water. Portage Point Beach wasn't accessible due to fallen trees along the trail. We'll come back to explore more again. It's a good place to base out of for adventuring to other places in the UP. Definitely visit Escanaba and the Delta County area!
Great quiet UP town. People in UP are down to earth, friendly and helpful. Parks on Lake Michigan are great. Traffic is never heavy and easy to drive in. If you like doing anything outdoors like camping, fishing, boating, swimming or snowmobile / ATV outings then Escanaba is a great place.
Downtown pretty much closes up after 5:pm on a Saturday. The park down near the chamber of commerce was informative with plaques posted here & there, giving meaning to the water scenery views of Little Bay DeNoc
Staff were friendly and accommodating, up to a point. We requested a room move, if possible, from the first which was smokey smelling. But when told our room had a dripping tub faucet, there was no ofter to move us again, because there was no plumber or repair person available to help. The hotel was not fully booked either of the two nights, so maybe they could have tried again... There was a nice sized refrigerator and a small microwave provided.
The staff was amazing. Very friendly and helpful with our road trip plans. The engine room tub could fit a small family. It was clean and comfortable. When we booked the room we got a nicer room for less since it was one of the rooms that was not remodeled yet. It looks like they are renovating the whole property. The hotel is right on the shoreline so it reflects the weather of Lake Michigan.
The suite was very clean. Beatrice was the name of the maid. The pool area, Lobby ,breakfast area and outside area were also very clean. All of the hotel staff were very kind and helpful.
econo lodge is one of my hotel chains to stay at this one particular is my favorite because my husband proposed to me and we made it a point to stay here out for night of our honeymoon 🥰
Check in clerk was polite. They did have a grab- and- go breakfast, which is more than some hotels were offering during our trip. Beds were clean and comfortable.
