Gatlinburg is the gateway to the Smoky Mountains.
Gatlinburg is the gateway to the Smoky Mountains. I have visited here at least a dozen times. Fun things to do in town but also so many places to visit and unwind in the mountains. It soothes my soul!

I have traveled to Gatlinburg several times over the years.
I have traveled to Gatlinburg several times over the years. It’s a great place to visit with or without kids. As with any tourist location some things are a little pricey but great deals can be found also. There are many hotel and rental options in town and just outside of the main strip. It has a little of everything for everyone. You can hike, visits shops and attractions, sit by a stream or creek that runs through out some of the properties and just enjoy the view of the mountains. Maybe even catch some wildlife run through the area. Kids will love the Aquarium of the Smokies, and especially watching candy being made at some of the shops. For adults. Definitely the moonshine tastings located downtown. But Gatlinburg isn’t just about downtown. There are several local business outside the main strip packed with local craft stores and places to eat. And Pigeon Forge is only a few minutes away to visit as well. Gatlinburg is the gateway to the Smokies and offers several routes to drive to see nature and views of the mountains if you are looking for a peaceful scenic drive with places to stop for viewing along the way.

I enjoyed hiking in the Smokey national park.
I enjoyed hiking in the Smokey national park. However there’s only 2 trails dogs are allowed . We also hiked to a waterfall. We did a night coaster at rocky top mountain coaster which has cool lights and went very fast! The moonshine tastings were great. Mamas farmhouse didn’t disappoint with its tasty food. I could’ve eaten there every night. The vacation was just too short!

I am surprised that there are only a few family restaurants.
I am surprised that there are only a few family restaurants.
We were looking for breakfast. There are only 2 pancake places that I found. The wait was an hour.
We ate at Shoney's.
It seems Gatlinburg is more for the afternoon and evening crowd.
Go to Pigeon Forge for family dining.

We enjoyed the area; however, we were wanting more outdoor experiences. This felt like an over-the-top Branson, Missouri. The mountains were phenomenal, and Cades Cove was beautiful! We would definitely stay here again with more planning for other outdoor activities.
The location couldn’t have been better. Steps away from the trolley stop, Ripley’s Aquarium, the main strip in Gatlinburg and River Road. River Road is a great option to bypass the crowds on the strip, and has some hidden gems that might be missed if you stick to the main road.
