Didn't check out the town much, but it is fairly close to Mary Hill Winery and extremely affordable. An excellent place to stay if you are attending a concert or other event at the winery. State parks close by too!
Goldendale is a lovely town with many amenities for the locals as well as visitors. We ate at the Chinese restaurant where prices were fair and the amount of food for the price was too much to eat in one sitting. People were kind and easy to work with at Coldwell Bankers. We are trying to sell some property as our lives have led us to live closer to our elderly parents. It is a delightful place and I would recommend it to friends to stop by and enjoy the quiet comfort and leisurely lifestyle.
Goldendale is an excellent small town to stay whilst visiting the Columbia Gorge area as it is quiet and away from all the crowds. We found an excellent restaurant called "The Glass Onion". Unfortunately the skies were not clear enough for us to take advantage of visiting the Observatory.
The "old downtown" area of Goldendale had some nice little cafes and shops. Had some great food. Right on the highway to Klickitat for fishermen. Plenty of local fresh fruit and wine. Mt Adams and Mt Hood are both on the skyline across the fields and rolling hills. Plenty of back roads and areas to explore, There is also a small observatory just outside town.
If you like historical information and items, the Presby Museum is full of collections and stories. We enjoyed the walking tour of historical houses. Stonehenge was interesting, with great views of both Maryhill and the Columbia River. The church, orchards, fresh peaches and rustic cemetery in the small community of Maryhill were worth seeing.
The museum and wineries were close and great to look at. Close to lots of adventures - the volcano tubes and lava beds in Bend, OR. The fish hatchery west of Goldendale. And the Glass Onion had terrific food and a great atmosphere.
