It's very close from Augusta, GA., but there's no comparison to the Gulf Coast beaches of Florida. Beautiful trees, plants, flowers everywhere, water too. Lots of wonderful shops and restaurants. Sea Pines resort has a trolley to get around the island, which helps because parking is at a premium. Enjoyed the Quarterdeck, Salty Dog, Harbourtown Cafe & Bakery. Getting around on the island is fairly easy--very trafficky getting TO the island. Hard to get to the actual beach--most beach areas are blocked by private properties. Can't think of anything I would avoid.CynthiaUnited States of America - Scored 1010
I love Hilton Head Island.
I love Hilton Head Island. It's somewhere I come at least once a year, and have since I was young, so I've watched it grow and change a lot over the years. Notable Places: Coligny Plaza/Park/Beach- This is a great area for if you have kids as everything is walkable, and there's plenty of entertainment plus a huge park for kids to play in. It's Greek to Me! is delicious for dinner in this area. Navigating Hilton Head is pretty straightforward & I prefer to bike when I visit. I like both Pedals & Mike's Bikes for my rentals and use them consistently. I love to go to Shelter Cove. The Mexican restaurant (San Miguel's) is excellent & they have a Hilton Head Social Bakery location there which is exceptional for pastries and has good coffee too! There's so many good places to eat around this area, and you can walk around the marina, which his fun!

The island itself is very nice looking in an Old south sort of way, Lots of old trees. If you are new to the island, be aware that they have regulations on street signs making them VERY hard to see. Especially for the older crowd. Using a digital mapping system is a required resource to find things on the island. There are MANY good restaurants. however figuring out who and what is not nearly as easy as it should be. We discovered that for the popular places, 3 days in advance is often needed for reservations.
