The Quality Inn Salem - I-81 hotel is located off Interstate 81, less than three miles from Roanoke College. Traveling with a large dog, I appreciate being able to park outside the hotel room. This hotel was very easy to get in and out of and the local area was easy for the dog. The highway was nearby but not so much that you got the noise from it. I would stay here again. The breakfast was great. There was plenty of ice in the ice machine even if the one on the second floor didn't work. No worries!

Salem is a great little town that’s very close to Roanoke and tons of hiking and biking trails. We especially enjoyed McAfee Knob, a local 8-mile hike. There’s a lot to do around the area, much of it free, and plenty of good restaurants, such as Table 50 and El Jefe. Blue Cow is a small batch ice cream establishment that I definitely recommend! Everyone was super friendly, and we would definitely visit again.
Salem is a cute town to visit for a weekend getaway, antique hunting, or a foodie adventure. It has a very chill vibe that's perfect for low-key travelers or couples. We enjoyed carryout from El Jefe Taqueria. The food and drinks were delicious and the staff were accommodating. Mill Mountain Coffee is great for freshly baked goods and your cup of Joe in the morning. The locals are friendly and I felt welcomed everywhere I went. You also have beautiful views of the mountains from several places around town. Salem is also very dog-friendly and fairly close to downtown Roanoke between the two areas you can really enjoy exploring.
Salem was a nice town to stay in. They had several decent places to eat, both local fare and national fast food places. The area where we stayed was right off the interstate, with ease of entering and leaving the area. The people who lived in Salem were friendly, and answered questions we asked.
My husband and I grew up in the area. This was a combo trip to visit family and get a feel for the homes available. Salem has very expensive housing and it looks like they have very little for those just starting out with limited income. They also need to visit their zoning if they have not already. There is also a lot of empty/abandoned businesses. Some of these properties could be rezoned where appropriate to better fit into the nearby existing properties (big old buildings beside residential areas). They have insufficient housing available so the existing homes for sale are many times overpriced. They do have great local shops and restaurants downtown.
Like the city itself just hated this property. So dirty dangerous for handicapped people. Just the worse experience ever. As a prior hotel mgr of nearly 20 yrs have never had a complaint about my previous properties I managed near had a problem like this at those I managed. Manager was defensive instead of trying to help me. Never...never... never again. Slum property. Can’t believe this is a Wyndham sponsored hotel, will have to reconsider another stay at a Wyndham hotel
First time in Salam, I really enjoyed the nostalgic feel. A lot of food choices and antique stores on E. Main St. Not far from Mall or historic buildings, the further west on Main, the nicer the buildings and area became. Small town feel with convenience. Clean eating options are available, farmer's market in town on weekend. Only two way road in town, slow traffic during end of work day.
Comfortable bed and pillows. its a good stop-off location but farther from town. The staff was friendly and they keep the place very clean.
