FAQs about hotels in San Diego

The Art of Easy Living

Sweeping along the coast against a mountain backdrop, San Diego has easy living down to a fine art. Its wonderful beaches and mild climate make it a favorite spring break destination, and with over 40 city breweries, there are plenty of ice cold beers to set the mood.

The city’s most recognizable landmark is the Hotel del Coronado, a wooden Victorian beach resort, now a National Historic Landmark. As original Spanish mission and first in California, it's has been relocated to the Mission Valley area, and Old Town San Diego still has many Colonial buildings and quirky shops. Also great for shopping are Horton Plaza and the boutiques in the beachfront neighborhoods.

The city’s most famous attraction is its zoo in Balboa Park, a few blocks from San Diego International Airport. One of the world’s largest zoos, it is well worth a visit, as is the fantastic SeaWorld, home to several killer whales. To see wildlife in its natural habitat head to La Jolla beach where harbor seals rest, or watch whales in season from Point Loma Lighthouse.

Just over the border from Mexico’s Tijuana, San Diego has a distinctly Latin American vibe and a variety of accommodations encompassing apartments, motels, B&Bs and hotels. See Booking.com for the best deals.

Doing the hop on hop off bus was great to get a sample of the city. We saw things we wouldn't have otherwise. We could have spent longer at the maritime museum but our time was running out for the last bus. We did a day trip to Tijuana which was really fun and interesting too.

Beautiful city, but traffic is horrible and freeways are insane. If you plan to stay in one area and walk to nearby attractions, it’s fine. But if you plan to drive to different parts of the city, the freeway system is very confusing, traffic is always heavy and drivers are quite rude.

As our stay was short and our focus the Breeders cup weekend at Del Mar our time for visiting San Diego limited. However we used the Old Town transit centre as our means of travel to north or South. The Coaster train is fantastic value for money $6.50 to Solana Beach and wonderful views of the coast at Sorrento Valley and 50% reduction for seniors aged 65+. We used the Hop on bus service near Old Town state park and can recommend as supper way to see the City with personal highlights island city of Corronado, Balboa park which could spend many hours there, and the USS midway were our highlights. Shopping malls a plenty we ate at Seasons 52 a restaurant at Westfield Centre, north of City and the steak was a delight. Fashion Valley shopping mall has all your needs if you love shopping. Taxis a plenty from hotels who in our case had a great relationship with a provider and arrived within 5 minutes of any request

San Diego is a beautiful city and the weather was wonderful. Zoo was simply amazing. And so was the Cabrillo National Monument. Strolling through the old city on a weekend was amazing. Sunset on the Pacific was breath taking. One could spend days in Balboa park.

Our room was very clean, and it was nice being able to step right outside and go down to the bay to eat our first meal in San Diego by the water. Everybody working in the hotel was very friendly and helpful, they recommended some great activities for my brother and I to celebrate his high school graduation!
