FAQs about hotels in San Diego

The Art of Easy Living

Sweeping along the coast against a mountain backdrop, San Diego has easy living down to a fine art. Its wonderful beaches and mild climate make it a favorite spring break destination, and with over 40 city breweries, there are plenty of ice cold beers to set the mood.

The city’s most recognizable landmark is the Hotel del Coronado, a wooden Victorian beach resort, now a National Historic Landmark. As original Spanish mission and first in California, it's has been relocated to the Mission Valley area, and Old Town San Diego still has many Colonial buildings and quirky shops. Also great for shopping are Horton Plaza and the boutiques in the beachfront neighborhoods.

The city’s most famous attraction is its zoo in Balboa Park, a few blocks from San Diego International Airport. One of the world’s largest zoos, it is well worth a visit, as is the fantastic SeaWorld, home to several killer whales. To see wildlife in its natural habitat head to La Jolla beach where harbor seals rest, or watch whales in season from Point Loma Lighthouse.

Just over the border from Mexico’s Tijuana, San Diego has a distinctly Latin American vibe and a variety of accommodations encompassing apartments, motels, B&Bs and hotels. See Booking.com for the best deals.

What Guests Said About San Diego:

We love all of the things we did in San Diego.

We love all of the things we did in San Diego. A concert at The Humphrey by the Bay, sailing, kayaking, biking, Coronado, Navy Pier, Mission Beach and other exploring. We found all of the people we encountered to be very kind and friendly. The only complaint about our visit was that driving was stressful due to very aggressive, fast drivers, not allowing merges, crowding you out on a one lane exit, and motorcycles going through traffic at 100 miles per hour. We had great navigation and were very conscientious about being in the correct lanes. We feel fortunate not to have been hit.

San Diego has an issue with homeless. Some areas like the Gaslight District are pretty much kept clean however, areas surrounding that are not. We stayed at 15th and G and would not stay in that area again. Down by the water front is very nice The San Diego Zoo was wonderful!!

I have not been to San Diego since the mid 90's.

I have not been to San Diego since the mid 90's. I had no idea where to stay as a solo female traveler. I reviewed a tremendous number of hotels and decided upon Sentral Gaslamp Quarters downtown, The location was excellent. plenty bars and restarurants, Starbucks. Grocery Outlet; and so much more. The next time I visit San Diego I will definitely stay at this hotel again, Also, visited Balboa Park and the Air & Space Museum. The hotel is no more than 15 minutes away from the airport, I took a lot of Uber's for transport.

The property was in a good location, 5 kms from the main attractions, but it is very easy to get around San Diego. Even with public transport. The breakfast was excellent, even the coffee was great quality, which unfortunately wasn’t the case with other hotels we stayed in US during our vacation. Staff was very friendly throughout our stay. This hotel was very good value for money, parking is free.

The Moxy is a boutique hotel with its own vibe. You have to love it. The location was excellent, on the border of the San Diego Gaslamp Quarter. Breakfast is very limited, but there are plenty of restaurants in the area where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast.

I really liked being in a hotel with a pool directly on the beach. The room was very modern, clean and had the perfect size for two people or a couple with one child (couch pulls out). Valet parking service worked great and staff was nice.

Hotel is located in reasonable proximity to everything you'd want to see in San Diego. Room was relatively newly renovated, and we liked the heated pool and hot tub, although the pool could have been cleaner.
