Drove down from Anchorage for 1 night. Arrived in time to hike to Exit Glacier on the Glacier Viewpoint Trail (1.8 miles and 40 minutes round trip on the shortest route--highly recommend and would allow more time to do again and soak it up) before boarding our Major Marine tour. Were not able to leave Resurrection Bay due to rough seas, but enjoyed the cruise--humpbacks, Dall's porpoise, mountain goats, bald eagles, sea otters, Cormorants, different birds, pretty scenery, good meal; we requested Orcas but they didn't show (I guess the Orcas didn't get the message); enjoyed the Ranger commentary; would definitely do the longer cruise out of the bay if you can, but our tour did not disappoint. Had time after the cruise to have a beer at Seward Brewing (pleasant), visit the Sea Life Center (nice, not spectacular, would do once but not a second time), walk along the harbor, and dine at Chinooks (good, not great). Had a late breakfast at Smoke Shack (in a railroad car with only 6 booths; the waitress and I got off to a rocky start, but we both rebounded and the food was excellent--highly recommend). Had planned to find some hikes on the way back to Anchorage (maybe at Portage Glacier and definitely Winner Creek trail at Alyeska in Girdwood), but the rain and wind were crazy. We settled for Begich-Boggs Visitor Center at Portage Glacier (nice) and Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (basically a drive-thru zoo; also nice). Kind of wish we had detoured to Hope for the well-reviewed grilled cheese, but we really didn't need any more food!
