This Sturbridge, Massachusetts hotel is located on Cedar Lake and next to the Sturbridge Conference Center. Super 8 features a seasonal outdoor pool and rooms with free WiFi. Location was just where we wanted to be, 60-90 minutes outside Boston, just far enough after our flight from London. Reception guy very helpful and friendly. Places to eat around the hotel were plentiful and easy to get to. Breakfast good, much better than we got at the Super8 in Lee when we returned. Travellers computer in the lobby was useful especially as the only downside was lack of wifi in our room.

The COVID problem has impacted Sturbridge somewhat, which is to be expected. Probably one of the casualties is the Friendly's, which had survived when many other Friendly's were closed, but is now no longer open. We found fewer antiques stores than we remember from several years ago. But there are some new hotels. We expect Sturbridge to recover to its former top destination status when COVID isn't a problem.
I regret that I actually have to write such a bad review. I want to warn people before they book a room here. The general concept and area is nice for families to have a get away. We saw there were fire pits, so we were going to start a fire one night. Before we even got to light the log there was a woman dressed in all black screaming at someone walking with a dog. We realize she was screaming down to us that we could not use the fire pit. She yelled out that she was with a 173 pound dog who is not on a leash and will bite you. She was screaming at us threatening to call the police. We immediately stopped trying to light a fire and she explained it's propane and only available to rent. We asked for her name and she refused just said she was the over night manager. Next day was check out. My husband saw the GM and started to talk to him about it. He also stated screening at my husband and again threatened to sick the dog on him. We ended up doing a police report. If she had just approached is in a respectable way it would have been fine. It's very unfortunate because it children had a blast and we planned to go back in 2 weeks with even more family. I will never go back there again! Be aware!
An excellent experience all around! Stayed at the Sturbridge Inn & Reeder Lodges, right next to Sturbridge Village, great place to stay. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and roomy, Staff is very helpful and friendly. Excellent continental breakfast in the morning, and a beautiful dinning area for breakfast. We attended "Christmas by Candlelight again this year at the Village. Although is was raining, it was wonderful, sipping hot chocolate by the bon fires, and walking the Christmas tree trails. We had an outstanding meal and service that night at the Oxhead Tavern, (200 year old building), across the road from the Inn, Publick House for dinner the next night was nice, but very busy. My wife enjoyed the shops, especially Sadie Green's, and I easily got lost in the "Birds & More" shop on Cedar St. A great way to spend time during the Christmas season!
The main reason for going to Sturbridge is the historical re-enactment village, Old Sturbridge Village. You can sit by the fire and chat to the parson's wife or watch the old sawmill in action or the printer laying out work, as well as many other things in this 1830s village. Well worth a visit or two. The ticket is good for two days and there's so much to see it's almost worth taking advantage of this if you have the time.
I liked the architectural structures of the buildings, I wish I would have had more time to explore. I liked the quaint antique stores, again I didn't have time to explore the area. I did get to go to the Brimfield flea market and was amazed how huge it was. It was absolutely amazing, next time I will remember my wallet. I found Sturbridge easy to get around, plenty of shopping and restaurants without feeling crowded. I do plan on visiting again, appears there is plenty of exploring to do.
Great area for shopping or relaxing. The village shops were great. Local restaurant were good. There was a recreation area not too far from our hotel that was dog friendly and a perfect destination for a Saturday
