The wind is strong always, so bring at least a hood. There is no place to hide from the sun, so bring something like an umbrella to hide from the sun a little. You can walk basically through the whole city, so it's easy to get to anywhere.
Cabo Polonio is, literally, out of this world, or at least it is a new reality. We loved it!! No paved streets, no cars or noises, fabulous food (especially local fish), good beer, good wine, people who don't judge or criticize, a community of locals who help each other and the tourists, a fantastic and long beach for swimming, shelling, walking. It's slow paced, which we vefry much needed as a respite from our hectic lives at home. In truth, it is the ONLY place, of all the places we've been to around much of the world, that we want to return to.
Getting lost in the night in this small beach town is the best thing you can do. Walking across the huge rocks was an unexpected experience and AMAZING. Being able to see the sunrise in the north beach and then the sunset in the south beach is spectacular. Not to mention the rising of the red moon!
Cabo Polonio is a very chilled place with a very unique atmosphere and simple way of life. Would recommend travellers to Uruguay experience Cabo Polonio. 1 night is enough though! Can recommend restaurant Lo De Dani. Good food, good portion sizes all for a reasonable price!
This place is just magical. You can enjoy a nice walk on the beach and the dunes, relax appreciating the view and the wind. There's also the lighthouse, from where you can get a view of all the village and the whole place, and the trail that leads to it, where you can go through the rocks for nice photos and get to see the sea lions just laying there. At the end of the day, make sure to see the sunset from the hill just next to the lighthouse, it's great. And at night just stay outside and appreciate the stars, surely will be one of the best views in your life. Just a magical place!
If you want to relax, and take a time-out from everyday life, social media and what not, go here and leave time behind outside. I loved being here, watching the starts at night, jumping in the ocean or chilling in the hammock by day. Turn of the phone, eat fresh seafood, drink cold beer and talk to interesting people. Stay at least four nights!
