Cabo Polonio is a bit of a magical place. The beach is endless and the sky is amazing at night because of the lack of light pollution. There are some good places to eat or drink but I recommend withdrawing a lot of cash before going there, as some places don’t accept cards.
The scenery and the beaches are unique. Cabo Polonio is a beautiful National Park. The sunsets are amazing. But you have to like the very particular vibe of this place, such as lacking basic infrastructure. It is extremely basic while quite expensive. It´s some kind of rich hippies place. Book in advance or you´ll end up in the same hotel we went, which was really bad (Puertas del Cabo). There are better options but be prepared to spend your dollars if you want something decent. We had dinner at Perla del Cabo which was very good, especially the ceviche.
The wind is strong always, so bring at least a hood. There is no place to hide from the sun, so bring something like an umbrella to hide from the sun a little. You can walk basically through the whole city, so it's easy to get to anywhere.
Cabo Polonio is, literally, out of this world, or at least it is a new reality. We loved it!! No paved streets, no cars or noises, fabulous food (especially local fish), good beer, good wine, people who don't judge or criticize, a community of locals who help each other and the tourists, a fantastic and long beach for swimming, shelling, walking. It's slow paced, which we vefry much needed as a respite from our hectic lives at home. In truth, it is the ONLY place, of all the places we've been to around much of the world, that we want to return to.
Getting lost in the night in this small beach town is the best thing you can do. Walking across the huge rocks was an unexpected experience and AMAZING. Being able to see the sunrise in the north beach and then the sunset in the south beach is spectacular. Not to mention the rising of the red moon!
Cabo Polonio
The owner Nancy is very hospitable and gave us appetizers and snacks while sitting on the balcony. She was always smiling and very pleasant. And the food was so good and well priced!! The location is great. I’ve stayed in the small Main Street area of Cabo Polonio and that’s nice as well, but being further away is great because there’s a good view of the town and it can be more quiet. The 4x4 dropped us off and picked us up right at the hostel so that we didn’t have to walk to or from the terminal.
Cabo Polonio is a one-of-a-kind experience. La Perla is the only place in Cabo where you can get the one-of-a-kind experience while at the same time you are comfortable and eat awesome food. It is expensive for the area (not internationally), if you want to go cheap there are many other places, if you want to be as comfortable as you can in Cabo (which you go for the experience and not the perks as there are not many), stay in La Perla.
Cabo Polonio
The place is very near to the "truck terminal" where you arrive in Cabo Polonio, and very central to the "village/town", bars and restaurants.
