The hotel itself, is a real gem. This is due to the following reasons. Number one is the staff……totally efficient and able to address and solve more complex travellers issues. As well, from front desk to room attendants, I was greeted each day with genuine enthusiasm regarding customer care. Number two is hotel amenities…….. gym, weights, mats, all with the rooftop view…… who wouldn’t want to work out!? 😃 And of course, the wonderful rooftop swim spa which you may book at your convenience for private use. Loved it. Number three is LOCATION….. it simply doesn’t get better than this sweet Punta Carretas neighbourhood. With the hotel right on the Rambla, there is shopping and the fantastic selection of restaurants all right around the corner. Meanwhile, back at the hotel, you have always got the wonderful view……

FAQs about hotels in Montevideo

Laid-Back South American Capital

Located on the north bank of the Rio de la Plata, the city of Montevideo is Uruguay’s capital, largest city and main harbor and economic hub. Claimed by the Spanish, Portuguese and British, the city now reflects the typical South American cultural patchwork. With a strong Italian and Spanish legacy, its soul dances to the rhythm of tango and the African-influenced "candombe."

With approximately 1.5 million people, it houses almost half of the country’s population. Montevideo has a rich cultural life with important institutions like the Solis Theater.

Carnival is Montevideo's most significant celebration, and the "murgas" play and dance "candombe" in the streets, turning the city into a big party. If you plan to book a hotel in Montevideo for carnival, check the availability beforehand!

Don’t miss the "Ciudad Vieja" old town, Independence Square and the views from the top of the Salvo Building. Rodo Park is the most traditional park in the city, while the "Rambla" esplanade offers 8 miles of sandy beaches.

Whether you prefer a cozy B&B in the historic district, a hotel on the beach, or accommodations near Carrasco International Airport, check out the Montevideo deals available on Booking.com!

Great modern city by the sea with also lovely old buildings. I knew nothing about Montevideo before coming here and ended up staying 6 nights. Visit the Memorial Andes 1972 museum. It's amazing and very moving!

Montevideo is the capital of a small country whose economy is doing quite well. I was surprised how unattractive the city, as a whole, was. Seems like some paint might be in order, and many blocks exhibited rank neglect. On the way out of town, driving past mile after mile of beach-side high rises, I realized maybe all the money has moved here, away from the downtown area that I had been staying and walking around in. I would highly recommend two wonderful free museums -- the Gaucho and Coin museum in the gob smackingly gorgeous and huge main hall of a bank, and the Design and Decorative arts museum in the Taranco Palacio -- Julian Fellowes eat your heart out. In general I very much enjoyed walking around the Ciudad Viejo, with its beautiful plazas and faded glory residences.

What a fantastic city!

What a fantastic city! It's mellow, slow, and easy, with plenty of beaches, breweries, coffee shops, and restaurants. Easy to travel between Montevideo and Buenos Aires. I feel like Montevideo is off of most people's radars--and that's a good thing. Folks looking to "go crazy" will (and should) go to BA. Montevideo is incredibly safe, easy to navigate, and the price is right, as well. My advice: Go to Montevideo, but only tell people you trust about Montevideo when you get back! :)

We stayed in Montevideo proper at Cala di Volpe.

We stayed in Montevideo proper at Cala di Volpe. It was exactly the right hotel to stay at. Close to the city center, across the street from the ocean, on the rambla (sea walk and we walked for hours). Two blocks from a shopping center with restaurants and high end stores. I lived in Montevideo as a child for three years as a foreign aid brat back in the 60's and it hasn't changed. It is safe and has a very European feel. I described it to my wife as Italy without Roman ruins or any tourists and she confirmed it was exactly that. It's relaxed and congenial. It's not festive like Rio nor in your face arrogant like Buenos Aires. It's a place to stroll and enjoy the cleanliness of the city.

Gorgeous little hotel on a pedestrian street in the old town of Montevideo, but within easy walking distance of everything. lovely room, comfy bed, fridge in the room, quiet location, easy distance to everything you want to see. such lovely staff, and really helpful texts about things to do every day. Loved staying here...it felt a bit staying in an apartment building and being a local. loved it.

I spent three nights on my own at the Palm Beach Plaza hotel. Great location in Punta Carretas, near the rambla. Comfy bed, hot walk-in shower with amenities, bidet, mini-fridge, safe. Airco was sufficient. Friendly staff. NB: Didn't try the 10 USD breakfast, bu there is a café nearby.
