I had a really nice stay at this budget hotel in Port Vila. It is fantastically located in a nice part of town that is quiet and safe, yet only a short walk or drive from downtown Vila. My room was small and basic, yet comfortable. At this price point, there is very little available anywhere in Vila that is so centrally located. The staff were extremely pleasant, kind, and polite. There is a casino on site, but it was never loud. Bonus: the fine museum and the striking parliament are a short walk from the hotel.

The room on the 2nd floor was very spacious, and opened onto an enclosed balcony with a limited view of the harbour, then an open balcony (good to dry towels etc). Aircon worked, and hot water (we had been camping). Tea making facilities, but no fridge.
The location is really good. Several eateries next door, and a 5 minute walk to the edge of town, cafes, shops & the well known Nambawan Cafe (very good)

Vanuatu is experiencing a recession after two cyclones, COVID and the collapse of Air Vanuatu which makes inter-island travel very difficult. The local Ni-Van people are lovely but struggling. The cyclones and bleaching have meant the coral reefs are not as colourful on Efate as 10 years ago when I last visited. This was a lesson in not treating another country as a holiday destination but as somewhere where real people live out their lives, so local conditions need to be researched and their impact respected.

Our trip was a bit of a roller coaster , but overall we enjoyed our time there .
Highlights , 83 islands distillery tour was awesome . Mele beach bar great food , awesome staff and location and the fire show on Friday nights fantastic . Kids can swim at the beach , have a feed and watch the shoe -A+ . The markets were awesome as usual .
Low lights . We’ve been going to Vanuatu for over 20 yrs , and our recent trip to the cascades saddened us and emptied our wallets .
The current owners havnt maintained the place and the entry fee is extortion . The roads are next level knarly All 3 of our airport transfers were no shows which was disappointing but not the end of the world .
The people of Vanuatu are why we come back every time . They really are the friendliest people on earth .
Special shout out to Gideon and his family from Havanah eco lodge .
They treated us like family and we had a great time over there .

Port Villa is heaven on earth, I have been there 3 times and will always go back, with all the natural disasters this island goes through people are still so friendly and happy all the time, they live a simple life and always have a reason to smile, i strongly advise visiting the locals as it much better than staying in the resorts, the rivers , lagoons and beachs are surreal and its all so clean, the locals will always say hello and help you with anything you need.
There are plenty of taxis to go around, I would stay away from resorts for food and go into town as the resorts are extremely expensive and the town prices are so much cheaper.

Fresh food and souvenir markets were very well maintained.
Fresh food and souvenir markets were very well maintained. Indeed the waterfront esplanade area was attractive apart from the toilets behind the stage set up for MAC festival which had a $1.00 AU entry fee. Our trip on the coral viewing boat was worthwhile. The Museum was a great disappointment especially given the high entry fee and the seeming lack of curatorial care in presenting historical perspectives such as WW2 events and impacts of colonisation.

The local people were great: friendly, helpful and polite.
The local people were great: friendly, helpful and polite. There were good restaurants, particularly the Waterfront Bar and Grill. It was easy to get a taxi or bus on the street, but asking the hotel to get you a taxi may result in a long wait for their preferred driver to arrive.
We heard several stories from disappointed people who booked resorts where there was nothing to do and had ferry charges to get back to the mainland.
Loved the hot showers (consistent hot not up and down in temperature). Clean room. The only thing I would change is the bed. It is solid, didn't stop me sleeping in it but had foam/spring beds everywhere else. Easy walk in to port villa centre (5 mins max). Easy taxi/bus ride to the airport and shop underneath hotel if needed.
And AC was a great addition when it was 95% humidity. We didn't get AC anywhere else we stayed.
This is a great Hotel. Situated really close to the ocean, you can very easily watch the sunset while drinking a Tusker Beer or a Mocktail from the onsite bar. The restaurant is also reasonable. Good times overall. Thank you to the staff at the Moorings from making my experience what it was.
Everything you will need is close by. Restaurants and the centre of Port Vila. Great spot.
Great place, pretty clean, A lovely lady owns it.
5 min on foot from the airport.
Great breakfast, plus a great kitchen with eggs, bread, coffee, milk, pasta, seasoning, and oil, all available to be used.
Best place ever to stay in Vanuatu.
Nice big room, everything worked, wifi, hot water fridge, fan, kettle. Helpful friendly owner with cute little dog. Laundry done well and for free. Price very reasonable by Vanuatu standards.
