Located 8.7 mi from Oudtshoorn, De Opstal Country Lodge offers accommodations in a restored farm building, originally built in 1860. We were the only guests staying at the lodge and the team took such good care of welcoming us and ensuring we were well looked after. We felt like VIPs have all the amenities to ourselves. We made use of the restaurant and swimming pool and even enjoyed a very tranquil, star gazing fire pit experience. The rooms were tastefully decorated with an interleaving lounge area that provided a great spillover for our 2 young boys. Michael was very attentive to all our needs, and beyond, and a favourite amongst our boys. The home cooked food was delicious and some welcomed healthy eating, after lots of padkos.

They serve a lovely breakfast, partly a-la-cart in addition to the basics such as fruits, toast and more, which you can take from the buffet yourself. The cars in the parking area sometimes got their windows washed in the morning. The rooms are provided with cold fresh water for the night. There is a small splash pool which is great to cooldown when coming back from your daytrip. The hotel is located in Oudtshoorn itself and is at a short walking distance from multiple nice restaurants. All-in-all it was a perfect stay for us.

We visited Oudtshoorn during KKNK and it was therefore fairly busy, but we didn't struggle to much with parking or to find a good restaurant for lunch. We enjoyed our visit to De Rustica Olive farm. On the Sunday we traveled over the Swartbergpass to Prince Albert, Klaarstroom and De Rust which was very enjoyable. On a previous occasion we visited the Cango Caves, which is still very impressive. I also went on a tour to photograph the meerkats at De Zeekoegat guest farm, which I will recommend for any wildlife photographer
Thank you Oudtshoorn you impressed us. The friendliness of its community. Outstanding natural beautiful landscape. Cango caves must not be missed and has its own “gifted & talented female vocalist (sorry I’ve forgot your name) who sang Amazing Grace so beautifully during the guided tour. Own transport needed.
The Home is truly a Farm Stay. Loved the family history and antiques that surrounded us. It is quiet and peaceful and has very thing you need close by. The hone us exceptionally large making you feel very comfortable and the host is always willing to assist and accommodate to your needs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Oudsthoorn has so much history, we have visited many times many interesting places to visit, visited the Cango ranch, and many of the restaurants recommended by the hosts at Riverside lodge. Very easy to find your way around
Wish we had come more prepared to explore, or had known where to go for outdoor dining/ lunch. Thankfully the mall is central with a choice of shops and eateries. Everything is within walking distance...
The beautiful Karoo was stunning. It never disappoints. Chandelier farm is a must- you get to feed the giraffes and ride and ostrich. Wilgewandel is a hit with the kids. There's so much to do, from camel rides to go-carting. Good restaurants all around.

Very nice self catering units. We were a party of 6 adults. Unit is a good size, clean, quiet and offered a good nights sleep, air conditioner was a bonus. Coffee, tea available in kitchenette. Regular cellphone communication from host before arrival, ensuring that we knew where to get the key. Hosts are very accommodating, thank you, much appreciated. Can recommend without any hestitation, as I would stay at the Pepper Tree again when visiting the area.

I loved the scenery. The place is beautiful, comfortable and value for money. It is close to Cango caves and Cango wildlife. If you need firewood they have available🔥. Mr Christo was an excellent host, very friendly and made sure to check in on us, without invading our privacy 😊 I highly recommend this place, especially if you want to unwind in nature peace and quiet 🤫 . It's pure tranquility 😍. We will be back next year. Thank you Mr Christo and Wife 🌼🌼
We had a quick stop overstay in Oudtshoorn, and found this gem! Beautiful interior and finishes, with very attentive hosts! The beds are super comfy and breakfast can be delivered into your rooms in the morning if you'd like, otherwise there is plenty of space to sit and enjoy it in the main foyer! You can lounge by the pool or cuddle up inside on a rainy day!
I have stayed at the Oudtshoorn Hotel on a previous occassion and I must say apart from the staff who is still as friendly and accomodating as always everything else has gone out the window... During the December/Jan holidays its so hot and humid in Oudtshoorn with no bar fridges in rooms or on request.
It has been the 3rd time that we stayed here. There is the Old Meul ( Rooms) and the Old Mill (Tents). It is nice and quiet. The restaurant is good. We also took a lunch at the Buffelsdrift Lodge. 8 km in the direction of Oudtshoorn. Very nice place and you can see all kinds of animals.

Ilze was wonderful. She has a great place for hosting small and large groups. It is a backpackers place, but she treats it like a hotel. Good job!
The whole setup of the accommodation. Clean and very spacious rooms. Close to a lot of the tourist attractions oudtshoorn has to offer.

The farm is about 7km away from the center of Oudtshoorn in a quiet area. The last 2km on gravel road. We stayed in room no 17. The rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished in a modern style. Big bathroom with separate toilet, bathtub and big shower. Most rooms have a balcony with nice views and additional hanging chair. We enjoyed a very good breakfast. The farm offers enough parking facilities as well, good value for money! In case you are interested in a Meerkat Tour, book it directly through the hotel, as they offer a good discount!

What was not to like! The set-up, the facilities, the service, the proximity to civilisation whilst being in such a tranquil spot, etc. Loved the meerkat safari! And the braai packets were yummy!

Everything was perfect. The tents are amazing and the pool overlooking the hippos was very special. Also, how close it is to George - yet feels so remote.
