One of the most beautiful historical towns in South Africa, with friendly and obliging community. Small town, very quiet, so don't expect night life. Magnificent mountain range and nature surrounding the town. We absolutely loved it!!!
Very friendly and tranquil Town, filled with lots of history. Awesome hiking and walking trails filled with amazing scenery. Good options for a variety of different style eating places, casual and fine dining. Highly recommended for a visit
For a small town there's so much to do, lazing around, going on hikes at the nature reserve going out for breakfast and supper to visiting museums and walking through the streets. Really an enjoyable experience with my family.
A pleasant country town with some attractive houses, church and museum. A pity so few restaurants were open for an evening meal. The two we visited were fine. Swellendam is a 'long, thin' town, so a car was useful.
It is a lovely town with beautiful views and a nice range of shops should you need anything. BUT: all eating places, except 1 or 2, close between 14:30-15:00 daily. What a disgrace to find it closing early! And especially on days of high tourism traffic, eg on 1 Jan when a lot of people travelled through town on their way back to Cape Town. The restaurant owners better improve on this or you will lose tourists staying in Swellendam!!!
Swellendam is a very picturesque town nestled below a beautiful range of mountains. There is a wide choice of places of historic interest and close to nature reserves. It has plenty of good restaurants and comfortable B& B’s.

Very friendly welcoming host in beautiful surroundings with the mountains just behind and farm animals just outside which we loved showing our little baby. The area was super quiet, the accommodation clean and homely, and the berries and little potted plant left out for us were a lovely touch. Lots of information was available in the welcome pack/folder which we found really handy as we then did a lovely hike to a waterfall which we hadn't known about prior to our stay here. Thanks so much!

We stayed in the Aan De Spruit Room. It was so spacious and beautifully decorated and had everything you need for a weekend away. Aircon was great in the heat. If we had chosen to cook or braai, then everything was also available there. The pool was great and there was plenty deck chairs for everyone to relax by the pool. Buffet breakfast was delicious with a lot of options. Staff were very friendly and all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the town of Swellendam.
Swellendam
We went for a short 2 night getaway and the accommodation really exceeded our expectations. We had everything we needed in our room - which was very neat and clean. The braai area was also fully stocked with wood and equipment. Lana and all the staff were such a great help and had several recommendations of things to do in Swellendam and the surrounds as well. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to go back again!

My wife and I really appreciated the fact that all the plugs were baby proofed and that there was a camping cot ready to be used if we wanted to use it, considering that we were travelling with our baby. It was also nice having access to the animals on the farm and that my son was able to feed them, with carrots left for us in the fridge by the property owners.
Swellendam
Location was perfect. It was peaceful, relaxing and easy to access all the areas we wanted to see. The cottage was clean with thoughtful touches, milk and water in the fridge, an extra black bag for rubbish, a file full of information on Swellendam and surrounds. The young lass at reception was so full of happiness, such a pleasure to deal with.

The hosts were incredible, they ensured we arrived safely and with ease. The cottage was very tidy and had everything you need, especially a comfy bed. The area around the cottage has neighboring farms with different farm life and some wild animals. It was a real treat and a private getaway, we hope to return soon!
