Jan Harmsgat Country House is set in a historic 17th-century farmhouse surrounded by the Langeberg Mountains and the Breede River. Absolute gem! Very nicely appointed, generously big rooms with extraordinary attention to details and personal touches. The estate as well as the food is top notch. Make sure to ask for a sunset Picknick with the Land Rover. Francois the General Manager also is a total beauty! Highly recommend!

Arumvale Country House is a self-catering country house located in Hermitage Valley, just 1.9 mi from the historical town of Swellendam. Just stunning. A short drive outside of town but that is what we wanted, to be away from the hussle and in nature. The Room is just stunning and the garden area / pool area also. The braai was already set up for us, all we had to do was light it. You have everything you need and more. Very calm and comfortable, stunning view and a little veggie / herb garden at the top that you can use if you need anything. Loved it.

People are extremely friendly. We had an awesome time, always love visiting Swellendam. All the restaurants are of excellent quality, and you can browse in the small shops. I walked to the Mall, and felt very safe
The TV did not work. When we checked it was broken and it looked like the lady hosting us knew about it but did not care to mention that. When we call about this TV not working at night she said I quote "Just press all the buttons until something happens sir" we were shocked! In the morning her apology for this also did not sound sincere as you could tell she was well aware that it does not work. Went to the bathroom at night and when switching on the light the electricity blew and the whole place did not have lights for the rest of the night. When we mentioned this in the morning it was a known issue and they blamed load shedding for it. My partner was looking forward to swimming the pool was GREEN! and quite clearly not been maintained for years. It is nothing like what you see on the listing, you would be scared to even stick a finger in it. It's the type of dirt that you can't see at the bottom of it. We asked for the bicycles they said we could use on the listing and there were only two bicycles, the one had a flat tire so we couldn't use it. The other one that we had to share was not maintained well and also had a chain locking the whole time. We were just shocked that there are only two bicycles available for guests. The Restaurant on the other hand was a pleasant experience. The gentleman hosting is very friendly and authentic it's amazing. The food is value for money as well. Had one of the most amazing meals the free breakfast is also good value and a proper meal. Wifi good and the music is lovely and the place all together has nice indoor and outdoor calming seating. We could come back for the dining experience it was exceptional. My partner and I spent the week talking about how calm and authentic the gentlemen hosting us were. He was just an exceptional experience I can't stress enough. In summary, we would come back to dine definitely!. But to sleep No, don't see how they justify the cost for it as well.
Swellendam is a beautiful little town with a deep history and friendly people. It feels safe to walk around and is inviting to explore. We especially enjoyed the sights, sounds and aromas of the morning market on Saturday.
In the past I always just passed Swellendam on my way to another destination. This time I spent three days and what a beautiful historical town it is, surrounded by the Langeberg mountains. Friendly people and excellent food especially De Vagebond restaurant where we also had the opportunity to watch the rugby during loadshedding and experienced the lovely Ostrich meat dishes!
Service was excellent and Patrick the owner welcome you at the gate entrance Bed and room very nice including the shower Breakfast is prepare by Patrick and is the best you can get and he prepare and serve the breakfast We will always stay over at The View It is very easy to get around in Swellendam Swellendam got a lot of historical buildings and Museum with the full history of the town
One of the most beautiful historical towns in South Africa, with friendly and obliging community. Small town, very quiet, so don't expect night life. Magnificent mountain range and nature surrounding the town. We absolutely loved it!!!
Swellendam
Kwetu was great for hiking and wandering around. the giraffes walk past often and in the am we work up to find one outside each window. The cabins were cute and had all the amenities you need. we were there in winter and the only source of heat was a wood burning fire place.. The damper didn’t seem to be working properly and the cabin was very smoky inside. The owners were amazing and kind. rooms were spacious.
Swellendam
It's a lovely spacious house. Everything is clean. There is a little playground outside for the kids. Also a fairly equipped kitchen and a little braai area just outside. So very family oriented. Especially if you are looking for a safe space for kids. Situated in a lovely little farm, that's also safe for the kids. Our host was friendly and accommodating.
Swellendam
The house is beautiful and the living areas are spacious. The beds were very comfortable and all had electric blankets. There is also large fireplace that was great on the cold nights. There are hikes into the nature reserve directly from the farm. We really enjoyed our stay and the kids especially enjoyed seeing the animals on the farm.

We loved the quirky little hoenderhok huisie. Great value for money. Everything we needed for a stop over from the Eastern Cape on our way to the Western Cape. Host gave us a warm welcome. Rustic but sparkling clean. Equipped for self catering. Spectacular views to the mountains and real farm experience for the kids.
