The hotel was perfect. It’s just a 7-minute walk to the ticket offices for both the cable car and chair lift. The rooms are bright, modern, and clean. The food (we also had dinner and 1x lunch) was the best we had on our entire trip in China. Lilly and her husband are wonderful hosts — very friendly and helpful. If you are interested, they also offer to pick you up from the airport or your hotel in Beijing, and help organize tickets for the cable car, and toboggan ride (the fun slide down). We stayed for two nights. The weather can change very much from one day to the next — sunny one day, completely overcast the next — so staying overnight gives you a better chance of enjoying clear views. Staying overnight also gave us enough time to explore different sections of the Wall: we walked the first day from Watchtower 10 to 6, the next from 14 to 21, and back to 10 and 14 again. Each section offers indeed different perspectives. We truly enjoyed our stay — I hope we will be back soon!

We were extremely happy with our decision to stay at this lovely family-run accommodation. The hosts were exceptionally kind and helpful. We were welcomed with warm smiles and a basket of fresh fruit, and on the day of our departure—when we were running a little late—they even offered us a free ride to the bus station. Such genuine kindness truly made our stay special. Our room was spotless, beautifully decorated, cozy, and perfect for a good night’s sleep. The beds were very sturdy and comfortable. The whole place has a peaceful family-home atmosphere, and it’s clear that the owners take great pride in keeping everything clean, comfortable, and welcoming. The property is set in a quiet little village with a couple of nice family-run restaurants just a short walk away. It’s about a 20-minute walk to Beijing Wtown and the bus station along a quiet paved path by the river. The walk is lovely, with beautiful nature views, and there’s even a small riverside park with towers and sculptures that light up beautifully in the evenings—great for photos. If you prefer not to walk, there are plenty of Didi drivers available at any time, and the ride to the accommodation costs only 10–14 RMB. For travelers coming from Beijing, I highly recommend taking the direct bus, which costs 48 RMB per person and takes around two hours to reach the Water Town Bus Station (cash only). The bus leaves from Dongzhimen Outer Bus Station (东直门外) at 09:00 and 13:00, and returns from Water Town at 12:00 and 17:00. Just wait beside the brown signboard that lists all departure times. Beijing Wtown itself is absolutely stunning—full of canals, traditional architecture, small cafés, restaurants, and even boat rides that glide through the waterways, making the whole place feel like a fairytale village. In the evening, when the lights come on, the scenery becomes truly magical. At 20:40 there is a drone show with the illuminated Great Wall in the background, which is unforgettable.

I Mutianyu Village, 27 kilometer fra Den kinesiske mur – Huanghuacheng og 44 kilometer fra Ming-dynastiets graver, ligger Mutianyu Great Wall Jingshan First House Boutique B&B. Difficult to find the location for foreigners and even for our cab driver. The owner went to receive us at the street to make sure we did not miss her. We had the top floor. Awesome with the jacuzzi and cinema projector. Very spacious. Owner was very friendly and helped us with the tickets. Even drove us as VIP at no charge to the entrance of the Great Wall (as we had limited time due to forecasted rain).

I Huairou, 26 kilometer fra Den kinesiske mur – Huanghuacheng og 43 kilometer fra Ming-dynastiets graver, ligger Yue Tong Farmer House. Fantastic family owned hotel. Very kind owners with personal attention to every guest. The suite is huge with beautiful garden and rooftop terrace. The food is homemade and delicious. The round transfer between Beijing and the hotel was top. Thank you for the very pleasant and relaxing stay :)
