The village uat really small and vety calm and safe. We ended up taking the private tour to Cotopaxi which costed $65 for both if us and we like it a lot (the guide was great). Alternatively, you can walk down to the highway, flag a bus or hitchhiker to the entrance of the national park and then get a guide at the entrance of the park. When booking the rooms just beware that there are different houses, we ended up staying in the one not shown on the pictures by mistake, which was fine but we were a bit confused in the beginning haha The shower didn't work the first day, but they fixed it the day after so all good.

Everything! Everything was so nice and it is a very quaint hacienda. The staff was great, especially Rafael who was so helpful in answering all my questions and was always happy to help. The food was delicious. Our room was super clean and comfortable. I have nothing bad to say about my stay. The bed and linens were luxurious.. the added touches of the turn down service of putting heated water bottles in our bed to warm it up before bedtime, the chocolate tasting left by our bedside.. and I still can't believe the modern toilet seat with the seat warmer and bidet! A heated toilet seat makes such a difference when it is so cold like it is so high up in the mountains where this place is. The horseback riding and our guide Miguel was amazing, and the horses were very healthy and well trained. We also booked a massage and hung out in the steam room and hot tub- which was perfect after our horseback riding adventure.

The location, and the drive towards it, is breath taking. The cabin is fantastic, build like in the old days, but with todays modern facilities. It is realy spacious, sleeps 6 if you like. The Italian volunteers were on premise, and they were oh so kind. They explained about their good work and about the Esperanza community. We met with some of the people, who were all very kind and lovable. We have lots of respect for the lady that runs the kitchen and the bank office (I don't remember if it was Francesca, Florence...?). She's a power woman! We got to see the milk factory inside, visited the community building, met de manager there, and visited the school. The kids in the highest class (11-12 years) grabbed their instruments and played us some songs. If people ask about how our vacation was, this is what we tell them about.
