Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu

Taito, Tokyo

Situated in the Asakusa area, Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu has a history of 80 years. The accommodation boasts a view of the Tokyo Skytree from its Hinoki wood bath, a colorful breakfast and rice cooked in a rice cooking cauldron. I wanted to sleep in a Ryokan for my birthday, because I've seen them a lot in Animes and other Japanese movies. Also this was my first trip so far away. The staff was really friendly and extremely helpful. The lady at the counter showed us everything that was important for our stay, from using our room to how to get into the hotel. The room was very traditional. Not many technological stuff, even with normal non-technological toilets. The futons on the tatami mats were very comfortable and I think I've had my best night in this location. The location of the Ryokan is basically directly in from of the sensou-ji temple, a huge tourist attraction. Even with this the location directly around the Ryokan is very quiet and you can enjoy your daily baths in peace. The bath area is quite small, but has a huge impact in atmosphere and relaxation. The water was warmer than I was used too (almost perfect), which leaded to me being much more relaxed. The view on the tokyo skytree from the bath is amazing (men can see it at night, because the baths switching regularly). All in all it was perfect.

The property is located 2 blocks/3 minutes walk from Tokyo Station which is super convenient coming from NRT airport via the Narita Express train, not to mention every train and subway line you could possibly need to reach any corner of greater Tokyo. For first-time visitors to Japan, note that there's almost nothing you can't get from the shops, convenience & drug stores, ATM machines, etc. in Tokyo Station. It's a small city unto itself. There are plenty of restaurants of all types and price ranges in the station building, plus the truly excellent Daimaru department store "depachika" (basement floor food hall). There are many more dining options within 3 blocks of the hotel in the opposite direction as well. The front desk staff speaks very good English, will hold your bags before check-in or after checkout, and will gladly assist you with local restaurant recommendations or reservations. Don't hesitate to book this hotel. It's fantastically convenient and pleasant.
