The checkin was simple. The hosts were easy to communicate with through WhatsApp and were very responsive with any questions we had. The flat was extremely clean and welcoming. There was a kind gift basket on the table when we came in. The views are beautiful. Gabriella and her husband have thought of every little detail. A washing machine, coffee and tea maker, a plug adapter for the electric, instructions for appliances etc. If I needed something, there it was. It was the perfect home whilst we were in Madeira and a comfortable place to come back to at the end of each busy day. The only thing to consider is there are about 30ish steps down from the street. The hosts were more than willing to help with luggage if need be. When we come back to Madeira, we would definitely want to stay again at Funchal House.

Everything about this property is simply fantastic. Excellent customer service throughout our stay, the staff was very accommodating and we felt like VIPs. The rooms are spacious, clean and quiet, and our balcony view could not be beat. The breakfast buffet was amazing as well, with something for everyone. We also loved the location, it is close to the downtown without being in the heart of it, and the promenade provided excellent walking paths. A great restaurant and a large grocery store were right across the street as well. We will stay here again when we return to Madeira.

Fabulous hotel 10 mins from the port. Large hotel with large rooms/bathrooms and great sea views. Check in was a breeze, extremely polite and helpful reception staff, very happy to share their knowledge and experiences. They have a great rooftop bar by the pool (too cold to swim when I was here), but I did go to the rooftop bar several times. Staff was amazing, made great drinks (try the Poncha!) and always made me feel welcome. Breakfast was phenomenal, huge breakfast room with hot, cold, veggies, local fruits. Competent and polite staff...always very clean, delicious!! Highly recommend this hotel!! 10 stars!

The location is perfect. Easy to hop in the car and get everywhere you want to be. Close to Funchal and the airport. We loved the balcony and our host was so friendly and flexible.

An old, very original house, owned by a branch of the Blandy family (I am told the last of the family run wineries on the island), is full of old world colonial charm. Set high on the hill overlooking Funchal this is a real gem and a welcome change to the bland more expensive hotels in the heart of the city. An easy taxi or bus ride from the centre it has parking, great views and delightful grounds. Run by the ever helpful Margarida if you can put up with its few idiosyncrasies I can’t recommend it highly enough. A breath of fresh air.

The house was exceptionally nice. The room was rather large for an European room. We had a very early departure time and were not able to join them for regular breakfast so she left a basket with an express breakfast for us.
