The view was incredible, made sure to wake up early to see the sunrise on the lake Onsen is very nice and they sell tattoo patches if you have small tattoos that need covering. If you have a lot of tattoos, it's about a 20 min drive to a tattoo-friendly onsen town Room was a nice combination of traditional and modern as there were Western beds but also a tatami room. Lots of amenities in the room, bathroom was also lovely. Staff are very polite and helpful (I forgot my earbuds and they are posting them to me) Good option for a couple get-away, would happily go back again

The concierge was top! Knowledgeable and fast. We're planning to be back after our Tokyo visit.

Set in Kizugawa, in a historic building, 13 km from Nara Station, Kizuna Guesthouse is a recently renovated bed and breakfast with a garden and shared lounge. This property offers access to a terrace and free private parking. The bed and breakfast offers mountain views, a picnic area and a 24-hour front desk. This was hands down one of the highlights of our trip. Yukie and Kevin are exceptional hosts that went above and beyond to make this a really memorable stay. Together with their lovely cats they really make it feel like you're at home. They drove us from and to the train station, provided interesting trip ideas and even gave a caligraphy lesson. The breakfasts were amazing and each dinner was full of great food and laughter. The futon beds were very comfortable and the room very clean. Thanks once again for an amazing stay, we wish we could have stayed longer.

The air-conditioned accommodation is 7.9 km from Ruriko-in Temple. The property is non-smoking and is located 10 km from Shugakuin Imperial Villa. The property is a small but cozy standalone house with a number of traditional features, a large terrace and plenty of parking. It is an ideal location for the nearby temples as well as the national park and the popular temples at the top of Mount Hiei. The host is wonderful and responsive and speaks very good English. They met us on arrival and came to wish us safe trip on departure. Kyoto is relatively easily reachable, but I would recommend a car not only to get out to Kyoto, but also to get around -- there is tons to see in the area. However, you can equally stay in the village for a couple of days w/o the need of getting out anywhere given the local serenity of temples! The village has all the amenities and during the day time even lots of restaurants next to the temples.

Toru-san was very accommodating and friendly, and also a genius for making the machiya so beautiful and charming. The design of the machiya was absolutely brilliant, and every tiny detail had been thought of. Toru even provided us with tea and snacks, which we were very grateful for after long days exploring Kyoto. The bedrooms were very cosy and comfortable, and the bathroom and sauna were just perfect for a soak and a relax at the end of the day. I could go on forever about how excellent the machiya was, but there's only so much you can fit into a short review! "さんきゅうそうまちや! "
